Dr. Tien Chin Ho is my surgeon. My first impression of her was she was competent and kind. My first time there I had a hip and leg fracture with a failed first surgery. My left leg was at odd angles and 3" shorter than the right. She did her exam carefully and then she hugged me and said she was sorry about my leg. Her humanity shown right through. Her office staff were pleasant, helpful and efficient. She was pregnant, about to deliver, when I had WLS. She is now on extended leave. Her partners of Valley Surgical Specialists, Dr. Boone and Dr. Higa, and the nurse practitioner (?name) are also very competent and caring.
Dr. Ho addressed the risks of surgery on my first visit as well as my preop visit. She is very big on education and understanding that education. I got... [Click here for more] a binder of things to learn and was tested on my preop visit. Passing grade was 70% - I got 90%.
I would rate Dr. Ho as 10 on a scale of 1-10. Her surgical competence and bedside manner were great.

Dr Ho is awesome. She answered all my questions, I wasn't rushed. She showed me where the 5 lap incisions will be and was very personable. I am confident of her skills and knowledge and have no fears at all of having her perform my WLS.
6-2004 Dr Ho has taken an extended leave/retirement, probably to spend time with her baby. I cannot rave enough about her skill and expertise. My WLS was done Lap in an hour and at 10 months post op, I'm doing great with no complications. I have to express my gratitude to my surgeon for giving me back my quality of life. Thank you Dr Ho. First impressions are not always right. After meeting with Dr. Ho for the first time, I left in tears. She told me I first had to lose 25 lbs. I was not expecting this. But after talking to several of her patients ( thank you ladies--you know who you are) I decided to stay with her. I must say that I am glad because @ our second meeting I felt much better about seeing her again and having her do my surgery--which by the way she wrote on my papers that she would do but I was so upset that I didnt even see that she aprvd me to continue the process. I will be going to see her again next week and hopefully all goes well. I havent lost any weight but i havent gained either. God Bless Posted on 03/21/2004 |

Dr Ho is truly a sweetheart. Yes the time it took to get a seminar date (mandatory for this group), a consultation date and surgery date was approx 10 months. I personally know 7 perople who have used this group not one had the slightest complication. Dr Ho is demanding of her patients, but completely worth it. If you do not follow her guidelines, she will not do your surgery! Period! She stated that she does not want a patient who inflicts high risks upon themselves. weigh gain prior to surgery date is the prime example. I had to wait 2 hours for each of my appointments with her, each time she was the Dr on call and happen to have emergencies. If I were the patient with an emergency, I would want her caring for me. I am 4 days from surgery and she has put me at ease with everything. Posted on 02/21/2004 |

Dr. Ho and her staff is the best. She's got a confidence about her that is unbelievable but she's so down to earth you almost forget she's a surgeon. I couldn't be happier with the way the surgery and recovery has gone. The whole staff is there for even the simplest of questions and they really want to make sure all is well with you. First impression was good. She said being overweight wasn't all my fault because of a physiologic condition MO people have.
She had "done" several people I know and her reputation is excellent.
My impression of her surgical skill is stll excellent, but I was annoyed with her lack of communication between me, her and her office staff. Office staff lost some important x-rays. There is a lot of room for improvement with office staff.
I recommend Dr. Ho, advising anyone who is out of the Fresno area to make an appt with the dietician at the same time. Dr. Ho is very strict about seeing dietician before and after. They don't tell you you can make an appt with the dietician the same day you see the doctor. This would be very helpful to anyone considering WLS.
Dr. Ho did address... [Click here for more] the risks of surgery. Her beside manner was OK. I had utmost confidence in her surgical skill.

I was very surprised when I met Dr. Ho. She is a small woman with a very young face, hardly looking old enough to be a surgeon.
However, she put me right at ease and answered all of my questions. Dr. Ho is extremely professional yet very personable. That was very important to me. I had heard only good things about her and so far everything is true. Posted on 11/30/2003 |

Ms. Tien Chin Ho has been great...from the first time that I met her...she has been courtious and has been very helpful in answering all my questions and concerns...she gave me all the information that I needed before and after the surgery...she has a very delightful personality and I am sure that anyone who meets her would feel the same...I have no regreats in having her as my surgeon and I am very fortunate that I was given the opportunity to have her as my consultant as well after the post-op...Hope you find this encouraging when you are looking for someone to help you decide... I have heard many wonderful things about her and will have my consultation on April 29th.
I met Dr. Ho on Tuesday and she is very nice. She gave me so much information and answered all my questions. I was pleased with her and her office staff. She was very open about deaths following surgery and at the time, there were 9 deaths (to 2900 surgeries) and that one was attributed to complications one year out and that the patient did not return for aftercare. Most were from clots and that they use anti-clot meds. She said that if ins. approves, I may get a surgery date for August. I am very confident of choosing her. Posted on 05/01/2003 |

I really like Dr.Ho. I first meet her at the consulation and she is down to earth and is really concerned about her patients. Everything is going kind of slow. I have a nutrutional program that I mustcomplete with Dr. Matson in Freson. I have asked Christine from Dr.Ho's office about the program and she doesnt seem to know anything about it or how long it will take to finish. I have talked to Laurie and asked her how long the program takes and she does not know either. Everyone keeps telling me I need to talk to Dr. Matson and it is up to me on how long it takes to finish the program. What is it that I will need to do to finish. Does anyone out there know? What will I be doing in the program. I live in Porterville and have child care in my home plus 3 kids ages 7 and under so I... [Click here for more] dont want to be driving back and forth to freson for a program that I dont know anything about. That is the only problem I have had so far. Dr. Ho is really nice and he staff is too. They really care about there paients. They have a wonderfull aftercare program is that is one of the reason we (hubby and I) pick Dr. Ho and her staff. I give her and her staff a A+ for Patient care. well as of today...4/19/03 i am just waiting on an appt..so far so good.. insurance approved right away..with in 48 hours..yeah..
