Troy LaMar, M.D.
California Bariatric and General Surgery Associates
Methodist Hospital, Arcadia, California
Troy LaMar, MD was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. As an undergraduate at the University of Southern California, he played on the USC basketball team and served as its co-captain from 1982 – 1986. He earned his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1992 and completed his general surgery residency at Huntington Memorial Hospital in California in 1997. Dr. LaMar has been in practice with Dr. Bengt Pehrsson since 1998, and has been performing Roux-en-Y surgery since 2001. Dr. LaMar is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery and the Society for Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is Board-certified in General Surgery. His special areas of interest include bariatric surgery, advanced laparoscopic surgery, laparascopic colon surgery and hernia repair.
“I really enjoy giving people a chance to change their lives,” Dr. LaMar says of his work with gastric bypass patients. “We offer them a tool that gives them the opportunity to lose the weight and keep it off. As a result, we help keep them around longer for their families. It’s the most rewarding thing I do.” Dr. LaMar knows from personal experience how important this “new lease” on life can be. His mother underwent gastric bypass surgery and lost 135 pounds. Three years later, she has kept the weight off and in April 2006, joined fellow gastric bypass patients for a reunion to celebrate their victory over obesity.
