My surgeon is very compassionate, gentle and caring and cares about each patient as an individual.
Everything was explained and answered in full detail as far as the risks, aftercare and expectations that I can expect with the weight loss I will experience.
I truely feel confident in him as my surgeon and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for what he does. He is the best at what he does. Posted on 03/27/2008 |

Toady was my consult and the first time I met the Doctor. He was great. Answered all of my questions and was able to inject some humor to make me feel comfortable. I drove almost two hours for this appointment and it was well worth it!
Let me just say that Dr. Sawyna is the BEST! He ahs given me my life back! Sacre Heart Hospital in Allentown has the best program around. I live 2 hours away and I chose this program when I have many to choose from very close to home. Posted on 06/23/2005 |

Dr. Sawyna was great. When I first met him, he was warm and engaging. He inquired about my reasoning for having the WLS performed. After I expressed my feelings, he got into the 'bad' things that could occur. I felt this was important. Almost like he was trying to make sure I knew the gravity of the steps I have started down.
Dr. Sawyna's office staff is great. The program they are involved in at Sacred Heart Hospital is wonderful. It really is a team approach. I live about 2 hours from him and the hospital, so having his staff arrange multiple appointments for one day is great.
The one aspect of his team approach that I am thrilled about is in surgery. There will be two surgeons performing this operation. They work in tandem, with Dr. Sawyna taking the lead. But... [Click here for more] having that extra set of eyes overseeing the procedure is very reassuring to me.

Dr. Sawyna was very direct and to the point, almost a tad abrupt. He first talked about the risks involved in great detail and then all the benefits. He took all the time in the world to answer my questions and my mother's questions (she went with me). His office staff was great. They were the first ones I spoke with on the phone that actually talked to me instead of pointing out how long the waiting list was. He had to look at my belly to see if he could do the surgery laproscopic and when he did he told me I was a little person inside. I almost cried. He performs surgery at Scared Heart Hospital in Allentown which has a very structured bypass program that includes nutritionists, social workers, personal trainers, and everything could possibly need.
its now been a little... [Click here for more] over a year since my surgery and Dr Sawyna is still great. He saw my about 3 times right after sugery, once for an emergency, and then at 9 months. He said I was right on tract and doing great. Hes got wonderful bedside manner for a surgeon (worked with a bunch!) and an excellent surgeon at that. He can get a little flaky sometimes but hes still really great at what he does. I would recommend anyone go to him!!

My first impression of Dr. Sawyna was that he was very polite and very understanding of my weight problem. His office staff, especially his assistant Patty was a wonderful asset to me. She answered many questions for me and helped me set up all of my appointments. The hospital where he performs the surgery is Sacred Heart and they have a whole team of people including a nurse, an exercise specialist a social worker and most importantly the team coordinator who are all at your disposal should you have any questions about any step of the process. They have support groups that you can attend before and after as well as a 24 hour answering service type thing should you have any questions. they're trained in this area and if they don't have the answer do call the surgeon to find it.... [Click here for more] He was very blunt with the risks of the surgery and made sure that I was not entering in to it lightly. I would overall rate him and the team as a definite 10.

My first impression of him was he seemed like an easy person to talk to, get personal with, trust.
His office staff is wonderful! I was scared at first, but any questions I had, Dr Sawyna and his staff answered with no hesitation. He of course went over all the risks with me, as well as the benefits. Overall I would rate him one of the best! I would recommend him to anyone considering this surgery! Posted on 12/22/2004 |

He performed the surgery first on my wife and it was highly successful. Dr Sawyna and his staff were very courtious and very informative about the surgery and all of the help you have after the surgery with the help from the support group. They informed both of us of the positives and risks related to this surgery. After all of the research that I did before my wife had the surgery, this is the best overall program that I could find. I do not have any complaints about him. Posted on 11/11/2004 |

My first impression of Dr. Sawyna was wow, he can really help me. That is my impression. His office staff is great. They are very helpful and supportive. They are always ready to answer any questions. There is nothing that I don't like about Dr. Sawyna and his staff. He pulls no punches, tells you how it is and really cares alot about aftercare. The hospital has a support group that meets once a month, a chat room and other things. When addressing the risks he is very thorough and takes his time to answer any questions. He gave me my life back so I would rate him a 10 out of 10. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence were excellent. Posted on 09/08/2004 |

When I first met Dr. Sawyna, he was very friendly, outgoing, and assured me that being overweight isnt my fault. He took me through the complications that could happen during the surgery, including the possiblity of death. He made sure I was full of knowledge regarding this surgery. Both the doctor and his staff made sure I was ready for this change and knew what I was gettin myself into. He visited me at the hospital, made sure I was doing okaie, talked to me for a little while and made sure we had an appointment set for the next week. I feel very confident in Dr. Sawyna and his staff, and I thank him for helping me make one of the most important and greatly needed changes in my life. While the hospital stay wasn't the greatest, the doctor made sure I was comfortable. If I could... [Click here for more] go back and change anything, I wouldnt change a thing.

My first impression of Dr Sawyna was that of honesty and sincerity. He didn't beat me up for my weight as had happened my entire life, he actually validated me as a real person. My opinion of Dr Sawyna has not changed one bit except that it has been reinforced over and over in the last 12 weeks. His office staff is wonderful. Very personable and very helpful. They have a genuine concern for the patients they serve. I can't say there was anything I didn't like about Dr Sawyna, except maybe that he is very much an optimist...that is not always welcome to a pessimist like me. Patients who are condsidering Dr Sawyna should know that he is brutally honest, and pulls no punches. He tells it like it is, and then lets you make your decisions. He does not pressure you into or out... [Click here for more] of anything. Dr Sawyna and the team at Sacred Heart Hospital have a great aftercare program complete with support group and all.
Everyone on the team is available to you whenever you need them. Dr Sawyna was very honest about risks of this procedure. He is a wonderful physician, and I could not have had a better surgeon. He has been wonderful to me, and continues to be as I enter into each new phase of being a post op patient!!!
