Let's start with first impressions... my contact with Davis (surg coordinator) was exceptional. She was the first person I spoke with at the NEW PROGRAM... explained serveral options the center offers and then talked my insurance options etc. I then RSVP for the doctor's informational seminar. Dr. Justin Bravermann was the speaker. I was immediately drawn in by his down to earth personality, humor and knowledge overall. I appreciated his honesty about their offerings. I went in sold on Lap Band because I feared all other WLS options. After the seminar... I left sold on Gastric Bypass. I scheduled my preop consult with Bravermann for 2 weeks later. In that time, I learned about the VSG and decided this was the most practical procedure for me. Upon my arrival to the preop consult...... [Click here for more] I wasn't impressed with the front office personnel at all. I wasn't greeted (the way I felt I should have been)... I was asked to sign in and pay my visit fee and fill out some paperwork. I let that slide... it was early perhaps the front office had a bad morning... (shrug). Well because I decided to go the VSG route...my surgery had to be preformed by Dr. Quebbermann - the Surgical Director of the center. I was pissed cause I really felt a connection with Bravermann for some reason. I prepared myself to be immediately UMIMPRESSED with Dr. Q...(i judged a book by it's cover...) When he came in to the room... he was way cool and laid back and was somewhat "GQ". He looked me in my eye and spoke every so casually with me about this and that. I asked him what would be the best for me... he said VSG would be great for me. That did it... validation for what I wanted and he didn't try to push something eles on me that I didn't want. He was honest about everything...(hopefully... but this includes "negative" as well...so I have to belive he was honest). Most importantly.. he passed the "MOTHER" test. She loved him and felt I would be in safe hands. (she's a nurse and several of his patients that see the doctor she works for...so added validation). Once done with his visit - I was suppose to meet the NUT...but she was out that day. So instead of them scheduling me to come back to visist they said she would do my consult over the phone. (wierd... but whatever). She calls and my consult lasted all of 93 seconds. I was pissed at that cause I felt riped off...but my insurance covered that "visit" 100% so I didn't let it bother me to much. On to the waiting game with the insurance company. I was denied twice for VSG due to investigational. So my last resort was to request a Independant Medical Review my the State of CA (CDI). Of course they require your surgeon to sign off with his agreeance that this is the best solution. I didn't think Dr. Q would sign my paperwork because so much time had passed (plus someone on OH told me he did not sign their appeal paperwork too)... but to my utter surprise he did and included mega info on why VSG would be better than RNY. For that I feel my decision to have my surgery done with the NEW PROGRAM... thus far has been the best decision. I am still waiting for a decision on my appeal. Otherwise I'll have RYN and will update this with post op details etc.

I have an excellent surgeon with a great reputation. He is a very matter of fact type of doctor. His partner Dr. Braverman is the one with the awesome bedside manner. A great duo of doctors to have on my team. The New Program, which they are the creators of, is an all inclusive type of doctor's office. They help not just the body get in better shape, but the mind and heart as well. They are there for you for the long haul. Posted on 01/25/2009 |

I was very impressed with Dr. Quebbemann. He had an air of confidence that was very reassuring. There was no doubt that he was committed to his craft, and it did not take but a few minutes of talking with him to know that I had made the right choice of physician. His associate Dr. Braverman was a little warmer in manner, but I felt very comfortable speaking with either one of them. I knew that with these two gentlemen, I would be in good hands.
My surgery went very well. I am pleased with my aftercare and with the support program that Dr. Quebbemann has built in to my postoperative care. I was well informed and prepared for my surgery. And now I am receiving support for any postoperative concerns that I may have. Posted on 08/08/2007 |

He is a great surgeon. Surgery was a breeze, and I place that solely on the great work that Dr. Q does. I loved Dr. Braverman who alway was checking on me in the hospital. Their staff is friendly and always willing to help. Posted on 06/25/2007 |

The N.E.W. Program was suggested to me by a friend who went there and had an RNY done a year ago by Dr. Q. I was impressed the minute I walked through the door. The entire team of office professionals were sensitive, informative and focused on Bariatric surgery and the patients who seek it. It didn't take me long to decide that this was the perfect Doctor for me. I like the "Life management program" for after surgery. It makes me feel more taken care of and supported. Dr. Q. and his staff brag that they haven't lost a patient yet and have had few complications. So, I am confident that they will take care to keep their bragging rights. Posted on 06/20/2007 |

My first impression of Dr. Q. was that he was confident. I really liked his down to earth, yet honest, attitude. The patient information session was very good and informative. I appreciated that this program (The N.E.W. Program) allowed you to meet the surgeon at the beginning of the process rather than at the end which is how so many programs are run. I also appreciated that the information we were being given was directly from the surgeon and not someone else. His assistant, Dr. Braverman was much the same and maybe slightly more personable (though I liked them both very much). In this practice, both surgeons are present for your surgery which is something I prefer. Other practices I investigated used a phantom assistant who may or may not be a full fledged and fully competent... [Click here for more] bariatric surgeon.
At the conclusion of the information seminar, I was able to see Dr. Q alone for my consultation. Again, he was so confident and assured of my candidacy that I left feeling validated. I also met with the psychologist on the same day and appreciated getting that taken care of right away. The psychologist, Dr. Joliffe, was wonderful and gave me some things to really think about.
As I left the information day, I had my pre-op orders and all my other appointments. It was nice to have a clear direction and not be wondering what all the next steps were.
From there, the insurance process was handled by the office. I must say that they moved quickly to get approval. I think my insurance is pretty good about approving this procedure, because that part was absolutely painless. I did end up needing to see a nutritionist, but that was a good thing!
I had to have lots of blood work, an abdominal ultrasound, echocardiogram, etc... which was based on my personal health history. All of this was to be completed before my 3 week appointment. Speaking of that 3 week appointment, it was fantastic. I met with the internist who will follow me afterward. Her name is Dr. Zigfried. She was direct, kind, confident, and clearly interested in ME! I would recommend her to anyone and am thrilled that she will be following me post-operatively.
By the way, Dr. Q's practice is called "The New Program". I would say the only thing they need to improve on is their office staff. The new receptionist is not a good fit for the rest of the practice, but once you get past him, things seem to be relatively smooth and organized.
There is a structured aftercare program and I am truly looking forward to it. It is run by the same psychologist that I met with on my orientation day. I am really happy to have this available and plan to utilize it fully.
Time will tell on the actual surgical experience, but I have high expectations for sure.

Dr. Quebbemann (Dr. Q for short) was excellent. He spent approx. an hour with me an my husband. Very well knowledgeable, articulate, and skilled doctor. He took his time explaining the procudure and also his level of success in the New Program. Dr. Quebbemann has a 0% mortality rate, which was important to me when choosing a doctor for such a serious procedure. He strongly recommend aftercare which is vital to your success after WLS. I would highly recommend Dr. Q and the New Program. Posted on 05/26/2007 |
