Dr. Smith and all of his staff are very nice. He attended the informational seminar and did a very informative presentation including a video of the actual surgery. He is a gentle, kind person. Dee, the barriatric coordinator was on top of things when getting me ready for surgery. He has a close relationship with a nurse and nutritionist who did an indept educational seminar before surgery. I am now five weeks post surgery and all of the staff have been helpful to me. The pre surgery education element was outstanding. I have felt totally confident with Dr. Smith and his staff. I met Dr. Smith at my initial appointment. My first impression is that he is extremely professional and competent. He answered my questions thoroughly.
I can't wait to see him again for the next step in this adventure. Posted on 11/03/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Smith was..."wow he's quiet, and very serious." Over time, we warmed up to eachother and he seemed to relax a little. The staff is very helpful and curteous and will jump through hoops for you as long as you handle your part. Dr. Smith is very big on after care, so if there are any potential patients that are reading this should know before they make this commitment. If you are not serious about change, dont bother stopping at his office! Over all, working with Dr. Smith has been a pleasant experience and I would use him again if I had to do it over. Dr. Smith is a wonderful surgeon! He's thorough, knowledgable, skilled, and very kind. I think I was most impressed as I went through all my pre-op/pre-admission testing and paperwork. Everytime someone say that Dr. Smith was my surgeon, they ALL would say, "Oh, he's SO good and very particular about his patients." He covered every detail, answered every question and his pre-op requirements were very important to a successful outcome. Posted on 09/20/2008 |

Dr. Smith did my VSG surgery at WellStar Kennestone in Marietta, Georgia, near Atlanta, which is a Center of Excellence. I cannot recommend him more highly. Not only is he everything I was seeking in a surgeon: methodical, meticulous and skilled, but he also surrounds himself with the same in his staff and those he works with in surgery. Sue Wood, the hospital coordinator, was so amazing and had so much knowledge and experience as she has been through weight loss surgery herself. The dietician, Cheryl Forbus, was so thorough at making everyone understand the necessary dietary changes and vitamin protocol. They have so many informational sessions and support groups that it is a very all-encompassing program meant to enable us to succeed. An interesting tidbit about Dr. Smith... [Click here for more] is that his undergraduate degree was in chemical engineering and he not only uses triple row titanium staples but also clips to ensure no leaks, and then follows this with a fibrin sealant glue. I felt very safe and in good hands throughout the entire journey.

I had the DS with Dr. Smith on 8/29/06. I've dropped from 383 (369 day of surgery) to 193. I've had no significant complications. I take my ADEK and calcium and other vitamins/supplements religiously. I attend Support Group each month as well and this is a key part of his “lifetime of care” approach to this life changing surgery.
Dr. Smith is an excellent surgeon (IMHO) because he was a MIT trained Chemical Engineer before he became an accomplished surgeon. Being an engineer (like myself) makes one better at just about anything that one chooses to do.
My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner! Posted on 07/23/2008 |

Great impression
It changed for the better over time and I felt he was the man for the job.
Staff is nice.
I liked his sense of humor and care.
He is very meticulous and I loved that.
After care is crutial to him.
Yes after care and seminars
Point blank and to the point
I would rate Dr. Smith 100% A+++
Both are great but if i had to chose between the two , I would chose surgical competence hands down. Who wouldn't?
I also have nothing negative to say. He has the whole package and everything is well planned and together. Posted on 05/18/2008 |

He is the most awesome doctor. He pays attention to you and what you have to ask him.
His staff at the hospital and the clinic are all wonderful and very helpful.
My impression of him and his staff have not changed. I love them all.
If you were to get the surgery done, he is a great doctor to go to.
He emphasizes alot on aftercare and blood testing after the surgery to make sure that you are doing well with all the vitamin issues.
You see him while you are in the hospital, 1 week after surgery, 1 month after, then 3, 6, 9, and 12months.
He covered all the risk of the surgery many times and was very thorough.
everything is great about him, surgically, bedside manner and all. Posted on 05/06/2008 |

I've only spoken to Dr. Smith on the phone thus far. My first impression was really good. He is so calm and I find that reassuring and calming to me. I have confidence in his abilities, and we even discussed their Center of Excellence status. It sounded as if he respected me because I chose him partly because of that reason. He was very thorough when we talked about the surgery, and he patiently answered all my questions even though I'm sure he had others patients to see or talk with. Posted on 04/08/2008 |
