Dr. Eric Schlesigner is the best surgeon, I have met. I am so happy that Dr. Schlesinger did my revision surgery on 09/2/08. Dr.Schlesinger's and Jen have been very positive and very professional Dr. Schlesinger has the best bedside manner I have ever saw. Dr. Schlesinger will return your calls when you have questions. I was in the best of hands and continue to feel comfortable with my new team. Jen had everything filed in a very timely manner and had approval in about 6 weeks, after I was denied once. Dr. Schlesinger expects all his patients to attend his support groups and he tells us all that he is with for the long term. We are a team and he is the coach. I would rate Dr. Schlesinger as a 10 in my book. Posted on 11/13/2008 |

My husband and I had the privledge of meeting Dr. Schlesinger and Jen for the first time in September '08. We had been discussing the surgery for both of us with a different surgeon for almost a year and getting nowhere. We were so frustrated that we thought that we may never have the surgery done.
I called Dr. Schlesinger's office and spoke to Jen and explained our situation to her. She was so kind and understanding. She scheduled us both for an appointment the very next day.
We arrived at the office and Jen knew who we were without me even telling her. She is the sweetest and most helpful person I have ever met. We were taken stright back to the exam room and within a couple of minutes, Dr. Schlesinger came in with us. From the moment we met him, we knew that we had made... [Click here for more] the right decision. He went over all of our options, some that the other surgeon did not even give us.
Jen had my surgery scheduled for Oct 6th and my husband's for nov. 3rd. within a weeks time. Dr. Schlesinger came in to see each one of us before the surgery and put both our minds at ease. After the surgery was over, he came to talk to us with an update with the lines still on his face from his mask.
So far Chip has had no complications but unfortunately I did. I was allergic to my stitches. I got so sick on a Friday night and I called Dr. Schlesinger adn he met me at his office and cared for me himself insted of telling me to go to the ER. That says so much about him in my book. He put me and my husband at ease that night.
We still have frequent visits with him as we are still recovering from our surgery. Every visit is just as pleasent as the one before.
All I need to say about Dr. Schlesinger and Jen is that they are the VERY BEST in our book and we will recommend them to anyone considering the surgery.

Dr. Schlesinger is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience with many types of revisions. His staff is very helpful and goes the extra mile to get your approvals and answer all of your questions. Aftercare is extremely important to this doctor. He stresses this in every communication. He is up front and honest but also very caring and compassionate. I have to say without a doubt, that this has been the easiest surgery for me to recover from so far. I have had 6 other previous abdominal surgeries and none by far has went as well as this one. Dr. S and his entire team are very competent and excelent at what they do. They provide an almost pain free and compassionate procedure right from the insertion of the 1st IV to the anesthesia to the after care. This Doctor ROCKS! Posted on 10/27/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Schlesinger was very professional and calm about the process and he was informative. Jen who is the bariatric coordinator was great!! She was very personable and made me feel at ease. I would refer anyone to Dr. Schlesinger he informed me of the risks as well as pre-operative liquid diet which I was not excited about. I'm glad he will be my surgeon in early 2009! Posted on 10/16/2008 |

I really liked Dr S when I first met him. He seemed very caring and knew what he was talking about. I was impressed that he makes you take accountability for your care and well being. As far as the risks of surgery, I felt he gave me too much info but I think thats to make sure I understand what I am getting into. The best part of the whole process was feeling like he really cared about me and wants me to be healthy.
I met Jen before she worked for hima dn called her out of the blue, I came in and had surgery within 6 weeks. Words can not describe how wonderful Jen is. She is a angel and I am thankful I met her. I really have no complaints. All went better than expected and I continue to feel like I made the best choice in my surgeon. Posted on 09/07/2008 |

I do not have the words to adequately express the depth of the gratitude that I feel… However, the hope of achieving a normal weight and the health that accompanies a normal range bmi…as well as the already present improvements in my quality of life and ability to be mobile…are just some of the gifts that I now live with and have the privilege of experiencing since I met with Dr. Schlesinger and had my surgery. Dr. Schlesinger and his staff have impacted my life in many profound ways and I will always be overwhelmed with appreciation for their compassion, support, and his master expertise. — Determined 2Bhealthy&strong Posted on 09/05/2008 |

OK, so I changed surgeons, not because Dr. Schoen is not a great surgeon, but because he doesn't do the Duodenal Switch, and that's the surgery I want. So now I'm thinking of going with Dr. Schlesinger in Arizona. I've been speaking with his coordinator Jen and I also spoke with him today. He seemed to be very competent and caring and I felt at ease while speaking with him. I broke down in tears after the conversation though...not sure why?? I will be a self pay and Jen has quoted me a self pay price of 23,100. Posted on 08/08/2008 |

When I met Dr S. for the first time I could see that he was a professional who believed in helping people get healthy and very understanding of the life issues that bring his patients to his office. I could tell that he is a big proponent of the Gastric bypass for his higher BMI patients but followed my wishes when I told him that I had decided to go with Lap Band option. I received several calls from him during the pre-approval process that surprised me a bit because in this day and age it is hard to get a appointment with a Dr much less have one call you on your cell to answer your questions personnally. I thought that was a nice touch. I had a few initial problems with my paper work getting processed with office staff but there have been some changes in his staff and things have... [Click here for more] gotten alot better since then and everything worked out fine in the end. The aftercare program is really good.
P.S Jenn, his current office coordinator Rocks!

July 11, 2008 - My first consultation with Dr. Schlesinger. I live 200 miles away, so must drive to each appt., so I hoped it would be worth it...and it was. Dr. Schlesinger is very, very kind and personable. This was the best experience I've ever had with a physician, and I used to work with them in a hospital setting. He was extremely thorough and supportive. He spent about 20 minutes with me. Jen, his receptionist, was wonderful also.
I have TriWest insurance (retiree prime) and with hypertension, the authorization from my PCM went through easily. Finding a network Dr. was difficult, until they understood my family was in the Phoenix area, not in California.
Jen tentatively 'scheduled' my surgery for August 5th. I have to get a Psych exam and the surgery authorization... [Click here for more] must be approved before a firm date is set, however.
July 14 - I checked the TriWest website for psychiatrists locally to do the psych exam, but when I called to make an appt. they were full until the end of September. So I researched Psychiatrists within driving distance, and one of them told me TriWest does not pay for pre-bariatric Psych exams.
Panicking, I call TriWest. They confirmed that is WRONG...and suggested I use the Behavioral Health search instead of the Psychiatry specialty.
This worked very well. I have my Psych exam scheduled for the 16th - locally!
Once this is complete, I call Jen to let her know and when she gets the surgery authorization from TriWest, we can set the date for surgery. I just want to get this behind me...I've been researching this for 3 months. Also, I am finishing my degree and to have the surgery and post-op healing done prior to Fall semester would be awesome.
Dr. Schlesinger also requires a protein drink diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to clean out the liver and lose some tummy fat - I like this idea as it will get me used to the liquid diet before the surgery.
I had also given up sweets and red meat 6 weeks ago and had lost 6 lbs. when I got to my first appt. with Dr. Schlesinger. I did this because I learned about 'dumping' during my research and want to get off sugar well ahead of my bypass. Also, I have hyperlipidemia and my teens are showing signs of the same, so I changed my whole family to white meat.
July 16 - Had my psych consult - went very smoothly, not at all 'invasive'...he asked what I had done previously to loose weight, how long I had been overweight, what I thought I needed to improve on the most, if I thought gb was a 'cure-all', did I know anyone who'd had gb, and what I expected the outcome to be.
So, now I am waiting only on final authorization for the surgery, the psych report will be sent out today.
- Check my blog/profile for July 16th on...
