Dr. Teng is tremendous! He did my husband's gastric bypass, and I didn't hesitate to go to him for my Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy. He takes time with his patients, is very knowledgable and his staff is well prepared and helpful, as well. He has a wonderful support program for both pre and post surgery, in which you are encouraged to participate. Nothing is left to chance - you have complete support at all times. He's an excellent surgeon, paying extra attention to details and taking time to do it right. His team is close knit, they do all surgeries together and have for a long time. They are very friendly and top notch. I'd rate Dr. Teng at the very top of his field. I'd go to him even if he didn't have a terrific bedside manner - which he does. Posted on 11/04/2008 |

I just met with Dr. Teng this past week. I just have to say that he is the coolest! I had met him previously, as I am an RN and have taken care of many of his med/surg patients. I have always liked the way that he treats people, patients and staff alike. My first impression of Dr. Teng was that he is young (but not too young), intelligent, compassionate, and that he exudes confidence. I found that with his office staff, some staff are more friendly than others, but that they all seem to be very efficient. Probably, the thing that I like least about Dr. Teng is also one of the things that makes him such an excellent doctor. He is very straight forward. He makes sure that you are fully aware of all the risks and lifestyle changes you are in for. He doesn't candy coat anything.... [Click here for more] He's not at all like a salesman trying to sell a product. If I hadn't walked in for my consultation knowing as much as I did already, he might have scared me off from having the surgery. He really made me think about the fact that this surgery is not a "cure all" and that with my poor eating habits, I will still have a lot of work to do in modifying my behavior after surgery and for the rest of my life. Over all, I'd rate Dr. Teng a 10 out of 10. A+++
He's got a fabulous bedside manner and makes you feel really comfortable from the get go. As a RN, I've taken care of many of his patients in the past and also know a few people in the health care industry who have had their gastric bypass surgeries done by him. I have the utmost confidence in his abilities as a surgeon and I would, and will be trusting him with my life.

Dr. Teng is extremely informative and thorough!!
I always say it's "Teng's way or NO WAY!!!". He starts off by telling every patient that they must be committed to his program or they can find a different surgeon.I have heard a few patients say that they feel like he's talking down to them. He's very adamant on how things will be done. He's one awesome surgeon!!
Going for my last appointment next Weds. and he warned me that he will be giving me a test(routine). He'll be asking about RNY and if he feels I don't have a total understanding he won't hesitate to push back surgery date! Last chance to weigh in(I've lost quite a bit this last month)any patient who hasn't lost at least 5% weight WILL GET their surgery delayed until they have! He's tough but he tells everyone that... [Click here for more] you're committed to HIS program the first 2 years post op.
His brother Dr.V.Teng is anesthesiologist on all of his cases.
Their sister,Tina, is an RN who runs their hectic office!
His asst. surgeon Dr. B. Hanna is a friend of mine who has been trying to get me in the OR for 3 years! When Tina called me and said I was approved;I called Bernie and said "You and I have a date on Dec 6th" He was excited as I was.
Dr Teng's program is intense and requires commitment but he tells patients that on their very first visit. He does 2 hour seminar/month for people looking into surgery. Every patient must attend his seminar first. He and Dr. Hanna hold the monthly support meetings. He is VERY involved with every aspect. Like I said earlier..."It's Teng's way or no way!!!"

My entire experience with Dr. Teng and his staff could not have been more positive. They were friendly and approachable, but also very honest.
My surgery and hospital stay were as close to painless as you can have. The staff at Mountain View Hospital were great.
Dr. Teng has the perfect combo of realistic expectations and kind bedside manner.
He made sure I went thru all the proper hoops to get this done. (nutrition, psych, etc) I was a cash patient, so I'm sure he could of skipped some of those steps and didn't.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give him an 11. It was only because I felt so confident in him as a surgeon and a person that I decided to move forward with this truly life saving procedure.
God Bless Dr. Teng and Tina! Posted on 10/09/2007 |

Dr. Teng is wonderful. He is very respected in the medical community. My OBGYN suggested I go to Dr.Teng rather than any other surgeon. He is very caring and his staff is good too. I had confidence in him more than I had in other surgeons that I saw. When I had a question after surgery and it was after hours he called me right back and was very nice. He is more strict than some surgeons but I think that's a good thing since the surgery is nothing to mess around with. Posted on 01/10/2007 |

I had my surgery on September 22, 2006. I made a life change in my eating habits a yr. prior so it would not be a great change for me. But I thought it would help me in doing that and it didn't I did not realize until after my surgery how foods are " mental " in the way we want the food not need it. Well I am on my way to a new life and I am happy! I have lost 65 lbs. since September and I feel great! Dr. Teng is the best! although I am having trouble with eating certain things as long as you stay on the plan given to you for the time period you are out of your surgery you will be fine and then you will see results and be healthy as well. So many diets come and go and this is not a diet it is a life change and not reversable so be sure be very sure do all the checking on the different... [Click here for more] ways to be done before you go through it go to the support meetings and ask all the questions you can. The other patients are very happy to answer them. Dr. Teng's staff is WONDERFUL! they really care about you and help you in any way possible. Good luck to anyone reading this and I hope if you choose this you will go through Dr. Francis Teng!

I just had the lapband surgery March 31, 2006 I have lost a total of 15 pds. in almost 2 weeks. I had the finest care, both before and after my surgery. I went home the next day. Very easy and wished I could have done it sooner. Dr. Teng is awesome and I would recommend him to everyone.
Super on information, and support groups before and after, follow though and his office is outstanding with insurance company follow up.
My daughter is a nurse at the hospital where I had my surgery and all of the staff and nurses know him to be tops and excellent in his surgery and after care too.
I am now cleared for swimming. I have healed perfectly. You can hardly see some of the laproscopic incision sites today.
Very little pain in the first three days. Now none!!!
For anyone... [Click here for more] who has had a problem in their life, as I have losing weight, especially with a slow metabolism from birth and into a very low thyroid function and am on 90 mgs of it now, you know what I mean. This is the only way to go. Believe me.

I had my surgery with Dr. Francis W. Teng on 3/17/05. I found him to be absolutely wonderful. He has answered each of my questions fully and respectivley. I enjoy his honest, sometimes humerous bedside manner. I chose Dr. Teng after researching many local surgeons. I had asked several people in the medical field and all highly reccommended Dr. Teng. My primary care physician actually said he would prefer Dr. Teng over any other surgeon to operate on his own child! That spoke volumes. Dr. Teng was refered to me by a nurse who had her WLS by him. I have had no problems with his staff and I found Tina to be a pleasure to deal with. I have only had to call Dr. Teng once, after hours on a Sunday. I called his office and I had a call back with in 10 minutes by Dr. Teng...not a... [Click here for more] nurse, but he, himself, called me back. Dr. Teng stongly emphasizes after care. I enjoy going to the support meetings. They are fun, informative, and I am meeting new people going through the same things as I am. Dr. Teng went over the risks of surgery, and even on the morning of surgery, being wheeled into the surgery room, he asked, "are you sure you want to go through this? You know the risks, Melody." I would highly reccommend him, only if you want the best.
