I loved Dr. Davis! Not only is his office staff very knowledgable, he is a great doctor. You don't get much time with him at your consult, however. Be sure to discuss everything and be prepared for that visit - it doesn't last more that 10 minutes.
I feel like I recovered so much quicker than the other patients on the floor in the hospital. I was up walking the same night as my sugery with little pain.
He is so focused on after-care. This is was really impresses me. I received a TON of information about my life after surgery.
Also, it's not as difficult to get an appointment as you might expect. It's worth the 4 week wait... Posted on 10/26/2008 |

When I first met Dr. Garth Davis, I thought he seemed nice enough, extremely knowledgable and very informative. The first time I meet him, he was a speaker at a seminar on weight loss. He really knew what he was talking about. Then I made an appointment and met him at his office. We actaully met in his personal office, which was nice. Better than the exam room. He talked to me about my choices, showed exactly what would happen with each procedure using little models of our insides and then recommended the RNY for me after discussion. I originally went in for the lap band. I'm so glad he took the time to discuss everything with me and that he recommended the RNY.
Later, I found out that he was "a TV doctor" on Big Medicine. LOL ... and that he had many fans. Yes he... [Click here for more] was the "hot" one. I really didn't realize I was in the same room as a TV star. He was very professional and genuiune.
His office staff were great. I really like his PA. She is very attentive and caring.
There is only one thing I didn't like about him. His popularity and the long wait for my turn on the surgery schedule. I wouldn't have it any other way tho. I felt good knowing my surgeon had done this procedure sooo many times, he could probably do it blindfolded.
Not only does he emphasize aftercare, he manages the Weight Management Program at Methodist Hospital. So you can't get any better than that.
I give Dr. Garth a 9. If there wasn't a 3 month wait it would have been a 10!

I would describe the staff as extremely busy and very patient with everyone no matter what.
The staff is very prepared and going through the process was very smooth. My only complaint is that I had to wait too long to get my first appt with the doctor.
Dr. Garth was very upfront about the risks of surgery and I was given a large packet on my first visit of everything pertaining to the surgery.
At this time I have only met with my doctor one time so I really cannot give you much yet on him. I will have to do that after surgery.
Well my surgery was done on the 2nd of September and everything went great. Dr. Garth was fantastic as well as the hospital and staff. I go see him on the 11th for my 10 day post op. Posted on 09/07/2008 |

Dr. Garth is very helpful. He answered all my questions and I never felt rushed. He was available after surgery to answer questions and even called me to see how I was doing.
I had a few minor problems with his front office. They need some training in answering the phone and being helpful.
I felt very well taken care of by Dr. Garth, his PA and nurse. Posted on 08/24/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Davis is that he is very professional, knowledgeable, and patient and thorough when answering questions. Aftercare is greatly emphasized. Methodist hospital has a Weight Loss Clinic which centralized everything you need - Nutritionist, Psychologist, Support Groups, Additional Support, etc. The materials given are extremely thorough. My first impression of Dr. G was on the tv show "Big Medicine". At the time I had been contemplating surgery for seven years and after seeing the episode where he refused to operate on someone. Even though Dr. G was threatened with being reported to higher authorities, I appreciated the integrity it took to stand firm and for the health of the patient and his safety. I also liked the fact that he and his father work so closely together. His office staff, for the most part have been very accomodating. I have noticed that, with the publicity from the tv show, they have been swamped and the office staff doesn't seem to be as easy-going as they were when I first visited the office in July, 2007. Aftercare program is extremely organized and structured. I receive regular e-mails regarding... [Click here for more] the new and upcoming classes for post-WLS patients. Overall, I would definitely refer him to others.

My first impression was on tv. He and his father have a show on TLC called "Big Medicine". I first saw him there. It just so happend when I called my insurance company he was on the approved surgeon's list. His staff has been nice so far. I would like them to be more pro-active than re-active. I try not to call them but on the flip side I don't feel they call me enough to keep me in the loop. They should have someone who calls you every two weeks to keep you in the loop. It would save them and me the hassle of worrying and bothering them. They won't have anything to tell you every two weeks but it would keep me from calling and would calm the patient's nerves. Per Dr. Davis' recommendation I went through Methodist Hospital's Weight Mangement program. The program throughly... [Click here for more] prepares you for surgery, your diet after surgery, your vitamins/minerals after surgery, and your mental health issues after surgery. I would highly recommend the program. I think his bedside manner and surgrical competence are both great.

I absolutely love Dr. Davis. He is so kind and caring to his patients. I found it very easy to trust him. I am so fortunate to have found him.
He has such a great personality and a wonderful sense of humor. I would (and have) recommended him to anyone who needs a wls surgeon. I also have to mention that he is the best fill doctor! He's in and out of there before I know I was even stuck. Posted on 07/10/2008 |
