I LOVE Dr. Fielding, I felt like I was meeting a superstar. I love the fact that he has has the lapband too and can speak from his experience of a big guy. I was insipired and felt very informed by his seminar, though you can tell he is a little biased about the lapband.
When I finally met him one-on-one, I love that he opened the conversation with "so, how do you feel about this whole thing?" A doctor who really wanted to know how I felt about something -- how nice is that?!?!!!
The waiting room is usually overcrowded and the ladies at the front desk always seemed hurried, but it has never really bothered me as they are always nice.
I noticed as my PCP and other doctors need to get paper work on me to Dr. Fieldings offices for my files anything mailed in gets lost. I... [Click here for more] am having to give my PCP and other doctors the fax number and name who the medical clearance needs to be sent to for the approval process. I then follow-up with a phone call to confirm they have received the fax. Since I have figured that out, everything has been good.

Dr. Fielding is a wonderful surgeon. He is Australian born and is very passionate about this line of work. Dr. Fielding is open to sharing his personal experience with his patients.
He is not only a surgeon, he also has had banding. He grew up overweight and when he performed almost 600 weight loss surgeries he decided to have it done himself. Many of his staff members have had the surgery as well, therefore they can relate with their patients first hand.
I was extremely happy with NYU Program for Surgical Weight Loss. Posted on 07/10/2008 |

The first time I meet Dr.Fielding I was a bit taken back at first. For one his office was packed with tons of bariatric patients. There was this really nice lady in the waiting room who I was talking to about getting fills. She let me come into the exam room with her, to watch her get her band filled(really nice of her). I was orginally expecting a nurse to come into the waiting room and call my name but Dr.Fielding himself came to get me. He was very nice and outgoing.I immedtly loved his accent and still do :) He made me feel very comfortable and explained to my parents that there was no reason to take food away from me since I would enevitbly just sneak more. He spent about an hour with me and made sure to address all of my concerns. He has an exceptional bedside mannor and overall... [Click here for more] I would highly recommend him to future patients.
The only bad part is that he does have a very big practice and sometimes take a little while to get an appointment, but in anycase if it was an urgent matter he personally makes sure to fit you in.

Mixed feelings on my experience with him. He can be cold and hard to talk to, but sometimes he is nice and accomodating. Something to think long and hard about before choosing a surgeon. They so say he is the top and I have no reason to believe otherwise. I have not had any complications with the surgery thus far, but I did find his bedside manner lacking at some of my follow up appointments. Posted on 03/17/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Fielding was "honesty". He had no problem speaking about his childhood suffering from obesity and his struggle with having the surgery and dealing with living with it afterwards. He was compassionate and understanding and did not rush me out of the meeting. He let me talk and he listened! I have to say my impression of him only changed for the better on the day of surgery. He made me feel very comfortable and at ease. The office staff there, although i have to say, it is sometimes difficult to get in touch with someone especially when you have alot of questions or anxiety or are just having insurance problems and must speak to someone quickly and unfortunately, you have to wait and wait. I had a 5 week hell period with my insurance company picking apart... [Click here for more] all of my paperwork even though i did everything by the book! Get ready because it can be a very frustrating time of your life!!! Dr. Fielding was recommended to me by 3 of my friends and not one had a bad experience. So far im into my 3rd week and had my first check-up yesterday Feb. 8th. Everything looked good on the Esofogram(you drink a white liquid and they take an x-ray of your stomach to check on the position of the band and make sure everything is ok). I go back in 2 weeks for the first tightening of the band and then 2 weeks after that because they like to do it slowly and also check your weightloss and answer any questions you have. His office recommends seeing them at least every 3-4 weeks for the first 6 months. Then every 4-8 weeks unless you need to tighten or loosen. The staff is very helpful and understanding and i would most definately recommend this team of doctors and staff to anyone. As far as which is better, competence or bedside manner, i feel both are very important and with Dr. Fielding you do get BOTH!!!

Well I picked Dr Fielding because he had the surgery and for his no nonsense approach. Plus when you see him losing weight it definitely inspires you. The staff at NYU is great. You feel like your among friends because everyone is routing for you and they remember you so when you come in theyll be the first to recognize your body changes.
My only thing was I never got to see Dr Fielding on surgery day. I only saw his asst and nurses. Guess that's the price for having a famous doctor. lol. But the staff is thourogh. And I would recommend them to everyone. Posted on 08/11/2007 |

It's almost a month, I haven't seen him yet, but I'm scheduled for a fill in a few weeks. He came very highly recommended, and was very professional at first meeting. On day of surgery he was there before and after surgery and explained everything to me. So far so good. Posted on 04/28/2007 |

After researching Dr. Fielding I was definitely impressed with his credentials and after meeting with him i was floored and brought to tears. Dr. Fielding is so personable and so real I could not have prayed hard enough to meet a surgeon I felt that comfortable with.
Having had the surgery himself and being one of the top surgeons to train other doctors in the us as well as abroad he gained my trust. Not only does he understand what your going through from a surgeon's prospective but he totally relates to you from a patient's position. and understands your emotions because he himself experienced those same emotions.
Although Dr. Feilding & his wife Dr. Ren both have extensive experience with Bariatric surgery and they both have preformed the gastric bypass procedure they really... [Click here for more] do not recommend it at all. Dr. Fielding belives it is not as safe as the Lap Band procedure and says that the weight loss providing you follow aftercare instructions is almost identical to the weight loss of RNY patients within the first 1-2 years the only difference is the complications & the death rate which of course are much higher with RNY surgery.
I look forward to future meetings with Dr. Fielding and I also can not wait to meet his wife Dr. Ren. I have read and heard so many great things about her and her aftercare from her patients. Along with their reputation, their credentials and their patient death rate {only 2 deaths: 1 in Australia & 1 in the U.S both were not surgery related deaths} I think they work very well as a team and I belive in my heart that I have made the best decision.

So far so good. The office is busy but the staff is very nice. I really liked meeting Dr. Fielding. He was very honest, down to earth and to the point. It also helps that he has the lap band and understands how overweight people feel. He really does get it. Posted on 08/10/2006 |
