Dr. Alvarez and his team were amazing from the get go! He has a great bedside manner and totally handsome. I have been in the medical field of work for 20 years and I am thoroughly impressed with this Dr. AND his staff. Everything was gone over completely which left me with no questions before-during-or after. I seriously have nothing negative to say... How many doctors can you say that about? On a scale of 1-10, I give Dr. Alvarez and his staff a 9.9 because no one gets a ten without a miracle...LOL.    Posted on 11/18/2009

Well, after reading and re-reading about 300 testamonials I can only hope that Dr. Alvarez is as wonderful as his reputation is...especially his surgical skills and expertise. My surgery is only 6 days away and I get butterflies every time I think of it...I know it is the right decision but as an O.R. nurse for 16 years now I pray no "intraoperative" incident occurs and if it does everyone is trained and prepared to handle it. Scared but excited...okay...I am 1 day post op now and Dr. Alvarez is the bomb! He is the best and has constantly checked on me just as I read would happen. The nurses at this small hospital are so incredibly attentive and literally "Johnny on the Spot" when you need anything at all. The surgical experience from a patient's perspective is positive and top-notch... [Click here for more]

I have had a fantastic experience in going to Dr. Alvarez. His coordinator Susan has been extremely helpful and prompt whenever I've emailed her with a question. We were picked up in San Antonio and driven to Eagle Pass, TX to spend the night before the surgery. On the day of surgery we were picked up again and taken across the border to Dr. Alvarez's office to meet with him and his assistant. Dr. Alvarez is the most charismatic and genuine doctor I've ever dealt with. He cares about improving your quality of life. After meeting with Dr. Alvarez I was taken to the lab to have blood drawn and get a chest x-ray. About two hours later I was on my way to surgery and honestly don't remember a thing until much later that afternoon. When I woke up in my room there was... [Click here for more]

Dr Alvarez is a wonderful man and very warm and caring. I can tell he cares about his patients. Its weird when I first met him it was like I was seeing a old friend. I researched him for about a year and I could never find anything bad about this man. His patients love him because he is the BEST DOCTOR. I have never flew anywhere in my life so flying to Mexico for surgery was very scarey for me. But the day I was to leave on my adventure I was more scared of flying then heading to Mexico. Susan sent me instructions of where I was going and step by step guide and I followed it and when I finally got to the hospiital to meet Dr Alvarez everything happened pretty fast from there. His staff was very professional and friendly. Dr Alvarez was amazing he really is and I always felt like... [Click here for more]

My first impression of Dr.Alvarez was that he looked very debonair. He dressed very professional and he is very sincere and my first impression of him never changed. Dr.Alvarez's office is very modern and he staff was nice. There was not anything that I disliked about Dr.A, his office, staff, etc. I really enjoyed my experience and wouldnt change anything about it if I could. Dr.A and his assistant Dr.Rosales did a great job informing me how to take care of myself. Not to mention that Susan (the patient coordinator) sends you tons of paperwork that you have at hand if necessary. The risks of the surgery are simply laid out. I would rate Dr. Alvarez on a 1-10 scale with 1 being the lowest as a 10. I would also rate Dr.Rosales as a 10. There surgical competence and beside manner are... [Click here for more]

Dr. Alvarez is fantastic. I do not regret my decision to have weight loss surgery. My surgery was on Oct. 9th and I had no complications at all. I was hesitant at first to have this surgery done and then on top of that to have it done in Mexico. I did not know what to expect. I live across the border and when I saw that people from all over the world come to Piedras to have this procedure done with Dr. Alavrez, I realized that my fears were what were holding me back from making what has become the best decision I have made in my life. My first impression of Dr. Alvarez was that he truly cares for his patients and he gave my family and me all the information that we needed. His office staff and his coordinator Susan are the best. Very supportive and always positive and willing... [Click here for more]

Dr. Alvarez is an excellent surgeon. He has a good bedside manner. I had surgery with Dr. A on October 13, 2009 and on October 14, 2009, I was up walking the halls and I even felt like I was never operated on, except for a little soreness. I would recommend Dr. Alvarez to anyone who wants the VSG surgery. The hospital is great and they come check on you constantly. My friends and family wanted to check out surgeons who performed the VSG near my home, but after research I would vote Dr. A hands down. He was my first choice, and I made him my last choice, and proud that I did. I wish everyone out their luck in their procedures for weight loss and good luck for a new thinner life.    Posted on 10/14/2009

Here's just a small testimonial of my thoughts concerning our major problem. The addiction to food. Food, cure or hazard? Food is like a drug. The more u eat the more u open your food receptors to endolge and intoxicate yourself of all the harmful waste they deliver. You become a reservoir of hazardous waste. To the point that you need that amount of fuel to function until one day u are hit with diabitis then coronary artery disease, peripheral obstructions, billions of extra fat cells, joint problems, back pain, slured vision, no air in your lungs, numness in your extremeties, full body edema. Just total lack of quality life. Food is not the enemy but we make it our enemy, our poison, our weakness. To the point it controls your every thought, every... [Click here for more]

I did a great deal of research before choosing Dr. Alvarez as my VSG surgeon. I feel surgeon skill and experience, complication rate, infection rate, etc. is an important aspect in choosing any physician. I first e-mailed Dr. Alvarez with my medical history and some preliminary questions. To my surprise he answered within a couple of hours. Dr. Alvarez then asked Lydia, his coordinator, to follow-up. Lydia is amazing! She answered every question, e-mailed all forms and directions, telling me where we would stay, about accommodations for my husband, and what to expect from day one. Things went very smoothly and there were absolutely no surprises. We loved Rosey, Dr. Alvarez’s cousin that picked us up at the airport and transported us to each destination. She treats Dr....
