Dr. Maher is a very nice man. He looks you in the eyes and tells you the truth. He does not beat around the bush (so to speak). He is up front about everything.
I have only meant him once, at my first visit. His staff is wonderful, very helpful, very knowledgable. They help you in every way. I had the nurse Jill and she was very caring. There was nothing that I did not like about Dr. Maher. Dr. Maher's staff went over all the details of my after care. I will be staying in Richmond for at least one week, because I live over 100 miles from Richmond. Dr. Maher told me what type of surgery I should have and the risks. I would rate Dr. Maher 100%, I really liked him for my doctor. He is just knows what he is doing and wants me and my husband to be comfortable with what is... [Click here for more] going to be happening to me. They all are very concerned about someone being with you so that they can learn how to help you have surgery. I have to lose 47 pounds and do test and classes before surgery. I came home with a diet. I am to try hard to lose this weight and learn to eat right. For the first time in a long time I feel that I am on the right road to better health. I can't wait to get a surgery date. My family is very supportive of my idea and my husband says that he trust Dr. Maher to do my surgery. He was recommended to me by many doctors that I had went to see. Because of my weight and that I need a team of doctors to help me.

Other patients have been very complimentary of his care. Posted on 09/09/2008 |

My first impression of Dr Maher is that he is somewhat passive and strict. But knowledgeable! My impression did not change about him. Office staff was really nice, but there isnt a need for appt. When you get to the office you wait! I mean, My appt was for like 9:30, I didn't get seen until around 10:45 and they werent even busy! Future patients should be aware that he wants you to be able to do the majority of losing weight on your own! All of these comments are based soely on my experience, I wish I had had a good experience as well. I am now with Dr Elliott at St. Marys, he gave me a fill and I have lost 3 lbs in a week,,,so yea me!!! Everything happens for a reason! God Bless them all for having the ability to help people over come this big obstical Posted on 08/27/2008 |

Well..I went to my consultation thinking that I wanted a LapBand...and after talking to Dr Maher, Ive decided on the Gastric Bypass. He was a very down to earth, easy to talk to surgeon. I felt that he was honest and forthcoming with all the risks and benefits of each procedure and he never made me feel rushed or pressured. His office staff is wonderful and Jill, his nurse, is very informative and kind. The thing that I liked most about him was the way he spoke to me. Despite the fact that I am a nurse, I do not wish for others in the health care field to treat me as if I know ANYTHING other than what Ive researched here on the internet re: WLS. I am a GYN nurse. (big difference)
I am waiting for a surgery date and hope to hear from them very soon...I'll keep you posted!
I... [Click here for more] asked if I could have a consult with a psychiatrist, to see if he/she thought that I would be a good candidate. I am glad that I did, I had a good experience with that too. BUT... it has taken a couple of months for all of that to take place and I really wanted a date by now. So, that being said, I cant complain about either doctor...they were both wonderful...I can complain about how long this has taken now that I have finally made up my mind to get it done.

My doctor was great. He had a very structered program. He also had a wonderful staff which helped me anytime I needed it. I would recomend this team to everybody. I was worried because I was 66. They were wonderful to me. I have had no problems with my surgery. Posted on 04/15/2007 |

Dr. Maher is an open and honest doctor. He may not tell you what you want to hear, but he will tell you the truth. I respect this in a physician. His nurse in charge - Nancy is AWESOME!!! She is very knowledgeable and helpful. I look forward to visiting them when I go to get fills - which have not been easy. I thank God for bringing them into my life! Posted on 04/10/2007 |

I cannot say enough good things about not only Dr Maher, but his whole team. I had only a few problems while in the hospital, all of which were taken care of right away. The aftercare has been great...every question answered completely and quickly. If I needed anymore surgery, I would trust Dr Maher and his team with no problem. Posted on 02/05/2007 |

When I first met Dr. Maher I did not like his bedside manner and he came off as very abrasive, but over the course of my check-in appointments, and hearing him speak publically, I began to like him much better, now I'm about a month away from my surgery and I like him MUCH better, in fact I am looking forward to working with him. My last appt, when I check in, I had lost 38(of the 50)lbs he asked me to lose, and he had nothing but praise for me and positivity! Posted on 08/17/2006 |
