Dr Kellum is very knowledgeable in his field. I felt at ease seeing he is a professor of surgery, that he has been doing these procedures for a long time, he had such a great success rate, he came highly recommended, he had very curteous, knowledgeable, supportive staff who I felt went above and beyond to ensure I was approved for the procedure. I highly recommed MCV for this procedure, they are huge with educating their patients before, during and after their stay, ensures proper follow up, and they have a wonderful support group.    Posted on 06/09/2008

I was very pleased the first time that I met Dr. Kellum. He explained to me all of the pros and cons of the surgery. What I needed to do. I had to lose 40 pounds before I came back for my pre-op check-up. I had only lost 30 pounds but that was okay. They said that I would lose more when I started the pre-op diet. I love his staff. Every time I call someone in his office they respond quickly to my call, if not at that time. I would rate them with a perfect 10 at this time, I will let you know after the surgery with the beside manner.    Posted on 07/24/2007

I have only met Dr. Kellum once, at my initial consultation in Feb. 2006. He is very thorough in explaining the risks of surgery and letting you know what you should know. I found him to be very direct and no-nonsense. I like that about him. He emphasized the multi functional groups that would be involved in assessing my fitness for surgery and obtaining clearances from cardiologist and psychologist. He also discussed a structured aftercare program. It is too soon to provide an overall rating. Jan. 2, 2007 - It's taken a long time for me to take the time to update this. Sorry. I have only good things to say about Dr. Kellum, his staff, etc. My experience was a good one, no complications, thus far (surgery was on Oct. 18, 2006).    Posted on 01/02/2007

Dr. Kellum remided me of the Dr Kelso character on "Scrubs" TV show. He looks a bit like him. He seemed to me, at first impression, to be a very competent and caring man. He answered all my questions and said I would be a good candidate for WLS. After ordering an ultrasound of my gall bladder and finding a few stones there, he opted not to remove my GB at the time of surgery for fear of infection. If necessary, it can come out later. Surgery is done-I will report more on my experience with Dr K and the team after my 1st post op appointment in July. I have had 3 fills now and am feeling great! I am continued to be impressed by Dr.Kellum and his team. My only regret is that Idid not do this years ago.    Posted on 10/23/2006

Great first impression, he actually took the time to sit and talk and answer all my questions. Seemed to be very caring and compasionate. Very realistic, which is great!!    Posted on 10/01/2006

Let me just say that he is a great doctor! My first impression was that he is all buisness! A little pushy but says what he wants and is done! He was I a little hurry but I also meet him the late afternoon of Friday may 27 (memorial weekend). My impression defiently changed over time! After surgery and during surgery he seemed to show more compassion. But I don't look to my surgeon for the compassion I want him to know what he is doing! The office staff, jill meador, the dieticians, penny mentor, and please don't forget the great fellows! Dr. Lee and Dr. Khouzam they are great! I don't think I could of survived the post-op w/ out debbie the nurse practioner and the fellows! Thank you so much! For future patients make sure you have your questions ready and ask quickly!... Dr. Kellum seems to be very concerned about you as a patient. He really worked hard to make me feel comfortable about the surgery. The office staff is awesome. I think they actually make the entire process worthwhile. After care is very important to Dr. Kellum. He wants to make sure that you are taking good care of yourself, and progressing well. Overall, I would give Dr. Kellum and his office staff a good review. The only problem that I forsee, is because MCV is a teaching hospital, Dr. Kellum allows interns to make decisions that are not always the best for the patient, and then he, Dr. Kellum, have to correct the errored decision. Point in case, one of Dr. Kellum's interns pulled a staple from my stomach, because he thought it "looked" red. In doing so, although,... [Click here for more]
