The Bariatric Center of Excellence is the only one in DC. Dr. Afram has done over 4000 GBS's. His office has everything in one place for your pre and post op surgery. Very professional office staff who care about the patient. I get calls from the staff informing me of everything they are working on. I have not been left in the dark about anything and the response time when returning calls in exceptional. Posted on 11/12/2008 |

The first impression of Dr. Afram, very professional. He is a caring doctor. He does not smile alot, but focus on your care is important to him. He is a very experience doctor in the field of weight loss surgery. He is the director of the center of excellence for weight loss surgery. His clients come from all over the world for his services. His office staff is very friendly and professional. Doctor Afram is not a doctor that joke around with his patients, me I like to make jokes to light things up alittle. He does not play around with his work at all. He will provide the best service possible, and know that you are in the hands of a experience skilled surgeon in the top of this field. Aftercare is emphasized alot and one of the requirements for surgery. Yes, structured... [Click here for more] aftercare program. Dr. Afram is very honest about the risk and or complications involved in weight loss surgery. He has an additional class at the hospital on the floor where the surgery is to take place. During the class they will show you the rooms, some of the tools that will be used after surgery. This is a mandatory class, non-attendence will cause your surgery to be delayed. Dr. Afram has a seminar at the hospital to discuss the risks of surgery as well as a meeting with him one-on-one in his before surgery. You can meet with him until you feel you are ready for surgery. You are encouraged to attend the support groups before surgery to ask questions of current patients. I would rate Dr. Afram as excellent in his overall care of patients. He is better in surgical competence, and less in bedside manner.

The first time I met Dr. A I was slightly intimitated but was going on his reputation as a surgeon not by his bedside manner. After my RNY Dr. A and his staff were very supportive, as they had been every day leading up to my surgery. All the girls in the office are awesome!!! My follow-ups went quickly and Dr. A always asked me the right questions and he showed concern for my well-being. I have spoken at three of Dr. A's seminars and if I had to I would do it all over again...BUT the only surgeon I would ever allow to touch me would be Dr. Afram! He's the best!!! :-) Posted on 07/02/2008 |

Dr. Afram performed my open RNY on January 15, 2008, and I've been completely impressed with his expertise, follow-up, and all the ancillary services his office provides. No, he's not the most "touch-feely" kind of guy, but his expertise is top-notch, and I have no doubt he cares deeply about his patients and their success. He is SO experienced with this (having performed the procedure nearly 4,000 times) that he is efficient and knows exactly what questions to ask and how to handle situations that come up. I had a complicated surgery (3.5 hours) and complications afterward, but those had to do with my individual circumstances, not Dr. Afram. I feel that anyone who chooses Dr. Afram for their surgery is in the best possible hands. And, for the record, his nurse practitioner at the... [Click here for more] hospital, Stacey, is *phenomenal*. She made a huge difference throughout my stay. In addition, Dr. Afram's practice AND the bariatric center at George Washington University Hospital are both designated as Centers of Excellence. If you're in the D.C. area, Dr. Afram is an excellent choice of surgeon.

When I originally met Dr. A as I like to call him, I thought wow he has no beside manner what so ever. Yet that didn't make me stop going to him. I would rather have his expertise. I really loved how the obesity center is one stop shopping. They have a nutrionist, psychologist, personal training and plastic surgeon on staff. In addition, his front office staff is so helpful and friendly. He has weekly group session meetings with patients at various stages in the process. I have now grown attached to Dr. A and his staff and am looking forward to working with them for the remainder of my life. I love that the center is committed to helping you for life! My first impression was that this guy knew his craft. He knew his own level of performance and his skill level. He is very knowledgeable about bariatric surgery and those who become bariatric patients. His staff are very friendly, the behavior modification of the program is thourough but not too confining. Aftercare program is structured, however is modified for the individual patients needs. overall I rate him a 10! He was awarded Americans top Sugeon for 2007.
He and his partner, Dr Philip are both very kind gregarious people. While they are busy doctors they both have time for a personal touch during visits. That was so important during my hospital stay, and I can't say enough about the staff at GWU. Posted on 11/01/2007 |

In all honesty, I could not ask for a better surgeon. Dr. Afram was referred to me by a friend. He is very attentive and actually listens to what you have to say. I remember going in for my 1 week checkup. I thought I had pulled a muscle in my back from getting up and moving around differently. He insisted I have a CT scan of my chest. Good thing...I was one of the few unlucky people who developed not 1, but 2 pulmonary embolisms. He saved my life.
His staff is also wonderful. Everyone knows you by name and seem very interested in your progress. I actually seen two of the ladies that work in the office one day while walking down the street and they called out to me. That's something you don't find where I'm from.
I recommend Dr. Afram to anyone who is considering weight loss... [Click here for more] surgery. I would only change 1 thing if I could...he needs to be closer. It is quite a drive to his office, but it's well worth it.

My first impression of Dr. Afram was that he is very competent and businesslike. A month after surgery, I still can say the same things about him. He definitely knows what he is doing and as far as he was concerned, the surgery and aftercare have really been going well. He is also very busy; sadly, you may feel rushed during your appointments because of this. Make a list of all of your questions before your appointment with him and that way you make sure to ask everything you want to ask; he will answer your questions thoroughly but poses very few questions of his own. Don't expect him to anticipate your questions; he will ask a few but you MUST ask him if you want to get the most from his knowledge. Also, if you have a problem (pain, nausea, etc.), be sure to tell him about... [Click here for more] it; he has helped me a great deal in this regard. As for his staff and aftercare program, both have been marvelous. I was approved for surgery without a hitch and his staff have taken care of everything for me (one-stop shopping at its finest!). The entire group treats you with respect, which is a far cry from other surgeons and staff that I have worked with in the past. Overall, I don't regret choosing him or his staff for this procedure and would certainly recommend them.

I was initially impressed with Dr. Afram. He's not much for conversation, he gets to the point and is very direct. His office staff is awesome. In particular "Sally" she is great. I know she has seen so many many transformations. She is very supportive and encouraging. Love you Sally, you're the best!! Posted on 07/15/2007 |
