Dr. Zuccala was so very open and honest about the surgery. He was also quite caring, as well as very funny! My first impression was extremely positive.
The staff was terrific. The approval process seemed to take forever, but that's the way of the world. Between the paper work and the medical approvals, time just crawled! However, the staff did keep me from totally losing my sanity.
After all of the appropriate approvals, I got my surgical date. As I recall, I met with Dr. Zuccala the Friday before my Monday surgery date. I asked him a million questions, and he answered each one with ease and good humor. I felt great.
Post-op, at about 3 weeks, I devleoped a seroma and had to call his answering service that evening. He returned my call within 5 minutes. I was really amazed... [Click here for more] by that. He saw me the next day and he calmed my fears and, again, took a great deal of time with me.
His after-care program is excellent. There are monthly meetings at the hospital and many of Dr. Zuccala's patients have become friends. Unfortunately, I have not been able to attend all of the meetings. I really do enjoy going to them!!!
This surgery is not easy. It is a major assault to the body. I am so grateful that, once I made the decision to have this, I found a doctor who I could count on to take such great care of me physically and emotionally.

I found Dr. Zuccala's office to be slip shod at best. They do not retrun calls in a timely manner. He never returns calls or e-mails/ Kathy wwho works inhis office is snappish. There is no patient privacy and your personal information is blurted out for anyone in the waiting room to hear. Lastly, in my opinion, Dr. Zuccala is more concerned about the $$$ then the patients. Look his name up and you will see that his only published article in 2002 was "The financial implications...blah, blah, blah."
In my opinion, anyone who would let him near them is just asking for trouble.

First impression was he seemed genuinely concerned about my health but came on kinda strong in the begining on how you got to be serious and follow their directions or the surgery would be no good. My mind was saying who the hell is this guy but when I met with him again and again I can truley see the compassion and concern he has for me, which once again proves you don't judge a book by it's cover.
Dr. Zuccala and his staff have treated me with kindness and respect and has worked hard for me and for my best intrests. He is a credit to his profession and his staff could not be better. Posted on 03/09/2003 |

Dr. Zuccala is a very nice guy...and I've heard, a very skilled surgeon. He was very thorough about the proceedure, and answered all my questions. His staff is great. They are sooo busy, you wonder how they get it all done! But they have been great. So far, in my journey, I have no complaints with his office. Posted on 03/06/2003 |

Dr. Zuccala is a knowledgeable, and compassionate surgeon. He also has a great sense of humor. He described the risks and benefits, of Roux-en-y, in great detail. He also promises he will be there for you throughout the entire process. There was more than ample time for questions or concerns. He has a fantastic aftercare program. He and his staff coordinate monthly support group meetings too. His staff is AMAZING. I can't say enough about the wonderful group of people who work in the office. Dr. Zuccala states they are the jewels in his crown and I most certainly agree with him. If I had to rate him as a surgeon, he's an overall GREAT. Posted on 02/12/2003 |

As soon as I met Dr. Zucalla, I was immediately put at ease and knew that he was going to stick with me no matter what. If anything, prior to and following the surgery, that opinion was strengthened. The night prior to surgery, he called me to ask me how I was doing and feeling. There is nothing that I dislike about him or his staff. As far as what anyone should know about him...I would consider any patient of his lucky to have him. He is very strong on the aftercare, especially the diet. He is a very competent and kind staff and the dietician is available for as many calls as one can make. My surgeon was very thorough on explaining the particulars of the surgery, including the risks. As far as rating him on a scale of 1-10, I would have to say 11. He seemed extremely competent... [Click here for more] as a surgeon and his bedside manner is the best!

Dr. Zuccala's compassion and empathy with overwieght people, his sense of humor and his knowledge, put me at ease immediately. Met him for the first time at a support group two days prior to my first meeting with him and his staff. Also at the support group were one of his nurses, Nurse Meany (not a word I'd use to describe her at all), and some of his office staff. You couldn't find a group of more dedicated, responsive people. They all have patience to deal with all of his patients, all the insurance companies and their endless red tape. My first meeting was Friday, October 18. My husband came with me and we met first with Nurse Meany who took vitals, explained the surgery, the before and after stuff. Then met with Dr. Zuccala. Both my husband and I were able to ask lots... [Click here for more] and lots of questions. We were not rushed at all. The last piece of the day was meeting with the dietician. She outlined the diet following surgery and asked me to follow the diet now until my November 5th meeting with her. Dr. Zuccala told me after my exam he would be able to perform the surgically laproscopically - hooray! Next steps, blood work, ultrasound and visit with psychiatrist.
