I have been extremely pleased with Doctor O'brien, from my first consulation through follow up. He listens, is very responsive and his staff has been wonderful. I would recommend Dr. O'brien to anyone in the Sioux Falls area! Posted on 09/26/2008 |

The one thing I felt about O'Brien is that he wanted me to be well informed and successfull. I am not experiencing the feeling that I am not important anymore to him. I drive 2 hours each way for a fill. There is no follow through from his team dietart or otherwise. Yes, I get appointments but they really do not listen let alone return your phone calls. The office staff always seem "busy" and you need to be patient. It was a struggle to know how the process was going. I had to call all the time to keep them working on my case. After the surgery, the hospital was horrible!!! They were not prepared for my medications and made things difficult for me on the way home. They were suppose to fill my meds before I left and they couldn't do that either. I take meds for my OCD and they... [Click here for more] didn't give it to me. It took 2 months to get things back to theraputic level. That made a big difference on how I felt when I got home. I am actually going to change doctors for follow through. He is a good surgeon but that is about it. If he could continue how he treats a patient after the way he did before, I would still be with him.

first impression, A very kind man. I read others' first impressions and expected him to be "all business". I was pleasantly surprised. He was "all business", but he genuinely seemed to care about improving my quality of life. He made me feel like a person-not just another surgery. Posted on 08/07/2008 |

Dr. O'brien was very helpful. He answered all of my questions, he was patient and listened to my concerns. The office staff was very friendly and seemed very competent. One area that I was frustrated with was that they didn't go over their aftercare plan during my consultation. I would rate Dr. Obrien very highly and I would recommend him to my family and friends. I seriously only saw Dr. O'Brien for maybe 10 minutes tops! He was very nice and actually humorous, which I didn't expect after reading reviews about him. He asked if I had questions and what not. He seems like he knows what he is doing and is just straight to the point. Which I don't mind at all. I did meet with his nurse Pam for at least 20 minutes though and she went through everything with me, even down to showing me the lap band. She was very informative and pretty much told me everything I needed to know about the surgery. She went through all of the risks and the procedure. I also got to meet with Jodie J. the insurance lady and she was super nice! She also was very informative and helpful. They are all very nice and very helpful! I think Dr. O'Brien will be an excellent... [Click here for more] surgeon. I have only heard great things about him and have alot of faith in him. I think he will do a great job! He has alot of surgical competence when it comes to Bariatric surgery. He was even the first surgeon in South Dakota to introduce the Gastric Lap Band (which I am having done!). They also send you home with lots of informative packets and they even sent me a video in my email telling me all about the surgery, risks, pre op and post op. Everything I needed to know was covered!
They also offer many support groups that meet monthly there. They also have information events there. They have everthing from insurance support groups down to specific Bariatric surgery support groups.
Oh and just for the record - When I was registering at the front desk, I was so overwhelmed and nervous I ended up breaking down and crying. The two people at the desk were wonderful, they cheered me up and motivated me. They told me that I have made it this far and I will be a brand new person after this! They even gave me kleenex :) haha
The whole experience was good and the staff is wonderful! I am excited to have my surgery there! I have full confidence in Dr. O'Brien.

Dr. O'Brien is a very, very understanding patient doctor. He did not do my surgery, but I have switched to him for the last 1 and 1/2 and am very pleased with him. He cares about his patients, takes time for patients, and is NEVER demeaning, as my other doctor was. He stresses YOU are responsible for your weight loss, but in a nice manner. Overall Dr. O'Brien and his staff is tops. I wish I would have come here first. Posted on 05/06/2008 |

In Oct. 2006, I met with Dr. Peter O'Brien to discuss WLS options. He was brilliant, extremely caring and helpful. He took a great deal of time to discuss my options. He listened to me and clearly explained everything to me. His entire staff was incredibly kind and supportive as well. I knew I was going to be in the very best hands!!!
On Dec. 5, 2006 with Dr. O'Brien as my surgeon, I underwent LAP-BAND surgery at Sanford USD Medical Center. The band is a wonderful tool and with the help of Dr. O'Brien and his staff, I have had a thorough education as to the causes of weight gain and the steps needed to take to achieve a healthier well rounded outlook with regards to what and how to eat.
I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Peter O'Brien and the LAP-BAND. Posted on 03/06/2008 |

The staff was very caring and kind. The overall experience thus far was wonderful. His appointments are quick -he is busy. He is not a "warm and fuzzy" personality, but in the OR I want someone with SKILLS, and he definelty seems to have them.
I really like the whole group overall thus far.
The process is running smoothly and the insurance gal, I believe her name is Jodi is fabulous.
My only issue was how long my appointment took. My time is valuable too. =-) Posted on 03/04/2008 |
