After finally considering WLS to be "real" hope for me about a month ago, I began reading as much information as I could find on the different options. (...I love the internet : ) I decided that if I truly was to go ahead with it, that I would choose the LAP RNY without a doubt. I asked God for direction since I didn't know where to begin. Literally, days later, I saw an ad in our newspaper for a free symposium on WLS with NJ Bariatrics, Dr. Brolin and Dr. Chau, his associate. I registered on-line, and the next day I received a call from Donna verifying my registration. Donna, who works in the nutrition area with patients, was very nice and she not only answered all my questions, but she explained so much to me that I hadn't even thought to ask! She really seemed sensitive to my... [Click here for more] situation and shared with me that she maintains a 169lb. weight loss from WLS seven years ago. I immediately felt inspired by her! I went to the meeting (and brought my sister-in-law along for moral support- btw, she also had WLS four years ago and lost 169lbs. as well : ) The symposium was a great way to meet the doctors without obligation and also to learn more about WLS. Dr. Brolin is one of the top doctors in bariatric surgery, a pioneer with 25+ years in his field! He has performed over 2,800 WLS operations, and has an impressive reputation that precedes him.. I was amazed by that fact alone. I found him and Dr. Chau to be very nice and also willing to answer any questions, no matter how stupid I thought it was: ) I felt quite confident with both of them. If I do decide to have the surgery done, I would like LAP RNY to be performed by Dr. Brolin. (I think Dr. Chau does more of the Lap-Band procedures) I will update on my personal experience with them later, when I have something new to report.

I met with Dr. Brolin of NJ Bariatrics and he took the time to answer all three pages of questions regarding Gastric ByPass Surgery, then asked if I had anymore questions. He never laughed or acted annoyed at any of my questions. That left an impression with me. I was impressed with his knowledge and felt very comfortable that I would be in excellent hands. So I began the pre-surgery insurance requirements and approximately six months later set my surgery date. I must say that Dr. Brolin’s office is excellent to work with and my surgery was approved without any hassle, which is due to the talented, completely thorough, Eleanor, who handled my insurance approval. Eleanor was able to intercept a pending denial due to additional weight history they needed. (Were they kidding me?) I... [Click here for more] have pictures to prove history, but my GYN came through for me and no time was lost.
My surgery was November 29, 2007, and it went very well. I had a minor surface infection develop, which I was told is always a possibility with any surgery. Dr. Brolin and his team (Dr. Gandhi & Dr. Patel) took excellent care of me. We discovered the infection when I was at home and frantically called the doctor’s service at 5:30 am. I received a call back literally 5 mins later and was asked to come into Princeton’s ER. A little while later, all three doctors came to look at the infection, cleaned it, and an CAT Scan was ordered to be on the safe side, confirming what Dr. Brolin already knew: this was only a surface wound. They set me up with home nursing care. I had a phenomenal nurse, Ben Mango, which allowed me to heal extremely well.
I mention this infection because of how well I was taken care of. In life, stuff happens with no body to blame or find fault in. However, it’s how we handle the “stuff” that provides a true testament of the people we are. In this case it demonstrated how caring, thoughtful, diligent, and quickly Dr. Brolin and his team responded. I would not have wanted to be under anyone else’s care.
Now, almost four months post-op, I have lost 107 lbs. This decision was the best thing I could have ever done in my life and worth every challenge.

My initial impression of Dr. Brolin was formed when I saw him conduct a seminar at the Hyatt Hotel near Princeton. I was struck not only by his clear presentation of gastric bypass surgery but also by the members of his staff; they all made a good impression. When I saw him for my first appointment, I thought he was a bit standoffish, and he did speak frankly about the risks of the surgery. As I have gotten to know him over the last four years, I realize how caring and concerned he is about his patients. When I went for the surgery in April 2004, I weighed 325 pounds, having lost 10 pounds in the previous three months, despite feeling the need to have many "last suppers." My stay at the Princeton Medical Center lasted three days and two nights, and I was treated well there.... [Click here for more] A month or two later, I began having problems vomiting that didn't stop. I went to the emergency room at Princeton twice, and the second time they kept me there overnight and performed an endoscopy the next day. They diagnosed and treated a stricture, a too-tight connection between the smaller pouch and the intestine. It was dilated twice, and now it works like a charm. Dr. Brolin and/or one of his associates were involved in both visits to the emergency room. Eventually I lost 140 pounds and I am very pleased with the outcome. Currently, I take no blood pressure medication, when previously I took two different kinds. I am in good health, and I go every six months to see Dr. Brolin, whose personality seems warmer to me now. I think he is a highly competent surgeon and doctor.

Dr. Brolin was highly recommended to me by a number of people. He is a very skilled doctor and has lots of experience. I heard he has done almost 3000 gastric surgeries. He is very patient. He explains the procedure very well. He seems to me to be the kind of man you want your doctor to be. He is so experienced. You can tell by talking with him. He has a large staff of people that assist him in explaining the procedure and a dietary person to help you with the eating restrictions after the operation. The office staff is warm and friendly and are very helpful in general. I found that his staff took over the insurance process and has done very very well in helping us with approvals.
i have many health problems...too many to mention. I fell this is a necessary operation and I am very... [Click here for more] confident after seeing the operation at New Jersey Bariatrics that I am in good hands.

Hello,
I am nervous, but I am doing much better now that I made my decision to finally do the surgery. It took me years to make the decision, and meeting Dr. Brolin has convinced me that I am doing the right thing. I researched the docs in this area and no one seemed to have come close to the number of successful surgeries performed as Dr. Brolin. I hope to do the surgery within the next 3 - 6 months, but I have every confidence I have the best bariatric surgeon possible.

I researched surgeons on OH.Com to find the most qualifies. Dr Brolin was listed in the top of his field. I visited his office and found him to be very knowledgeable about what he does. He's done over 2800 gastric bypasses and answered all of my questions fully. The office staff is great. I would recommend him fully to all and everyone. Posted on 01/26/2008 |

Dr. Brolin and his staff are wonderful!!! I met him for the first time over 6 years ago at St. Peter's Hospital when my family and I began inquiring about gastric bypass surgery. After researching several other area doctors and attending their support group meetings, we decided to put our trust in Dr. Brolin. His professionalism, competence, and experience in the field outshined others. My father had his surgery with Dr. Brolin in April 2002, followed by my mother in October 2002, and myself in June 2003. We are all VERY happy with our decision to have the surgery, and ESPECIALLY in choosing Dr. Brolin and his staff. They made our journey to "the other side" a pleasant one, explaining the whole process from pre-certification/insurance to the risks and complications. AND, we... [Click here for more] were each treated like individuals. Although we are approx. 5-6 years post-op, we still go to the support group meetings as often as possible, as we find them very informative. At the start of each meeting, Dr. Brolin hosts a Q&A session (however, if you prefer to ask a question in private, he is available at the end of the meeting) followed by a speaker on whatever the monthly topic is. The meetings really help to keep people on track and/or get people back on track. THANK YOU DR. BROLIN FOR GIVING THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THEIR LIFE BACK!!!

I believe Dr. Brolin is one of the most credentialed surgeons in New Jersey. After researching many doctors, Dr. Brolin stood out to me. His bedside manner was wonderful. Not only that but he has over 2700 gastric bypass surgeries, and I felt comfortable leaving my results in his hands. He happens to be one of the most professional doctors, and is very very knowledegable in weight-loss surgery. I had heard that he was an extremely quiet person. After getting to know him, I have found him to be very quick witted and friendly.
His office staff was wonderful and extremely welcoming and knowledgeable.
I highly recommend Dr. Brolin to anyone. Posted on 01/19/2008 |

My name is Lorraine and 1 year ago I met Dr. Brolin as I accompanied my sister to find the most experienced and accomplished Barriatric Surgeon in the tri-state area. We met with 3 barriatric surgeons, After all the interviews were over, we both agreed it would be Dr. Brolin that could be trusted for such life altering surgery. Dr. Brolin was very professional, and his experience preceeded him. No other doctor seemed as competent and accomplished as Dr. Brolin. This past year, I watched my sister shed pounds, with none of the side effects the media seemed to be talking about. She not only began to shrink before my eyes, but she also develped a new zest for life. She credits Dr. Brolin and his staff for this, and also feels the support group meetings are invaluable! Now,... [Click here for more] I decided, is my turn. I am scheduled for surgery next month and cannot wait to begin my journey to a healthy new me. I will report back.--Lorraine

Dr. Brolin performed gastric bypass surgery 25 years ago on 2 people that I know very well. I have known these 2 people for 27 years. They are well and happy. When I first met Dr. Brolin he remembered those patients from 25 years ago including details about their lives! When I met him again at two support group meetings, I was impressed by how he listened to everyone's questions and answered them so thoroughly. He repeated every question to make sure that everyone in the room could hear them. I met him again for my consultation. He was very thorough in explaining risks, complications, and aftercare. The strongest impression I have of Dr. Brolin (besides his surgical abilities) is that he truly and sincerely cares about each patient as an individual and feels great happiness in helping... [Click here for more] people save their lives. I am so confident to have him do this surgery and know that he will be able to handle any bumps in the road, if any. The support group, which meets the first Monday of each month is awesome. I am looking forward to working closely with Dr. Brolin for many years to ensure a successful outcome!
An extra note--surgery was 3 days ago and it went great! I was released from the hospital after only 1 night! I will always be very grateful to Dr. Brolin and Dr. Nihalani for all they have done for me.
Another note--I am now one year out and went from a size 2X to a size two! I look great AND I feel great! Thank you Dr. Brolin and Dr. Chau for all of the support you've given me during the past year. Knowing that you are always there to listen or answer a question no matter how small means everything--thank you!
