I recently had my first appointment with Dr. Robert Pinnar and his staff. I am a transfer patient;I had my lapband surgery two years ago with a surgeon in my previous state of residence. I had a slip, a revision, and I am starting over. I was greeted with warmth, compassion, and humor. I first met with Paul (P.A.)at the Reston Surgery Center to get my fill(surgery center staff was A+) He was amazing! Paul put me at ease with his warm bedside manner, competence, and attention to detail. Sue, Dr. Pinnar's nurse, made me feel as though I was her only patient. She listened to my concerns, shared advice, and offered encouragement. Shara and Debra handled my appointment scheduling and administrative matters. They were so responsive, friendly and helpful. In my brief interaction... [Click here for more] with Dr. Pinnar, I found him to be straightforward and knowledgeable. I look forward to being a patient of Dr. Pinnar's and being part of his office support group and online community.

My first impression of Dr. Robert Pinnar was of a competent caring physician. He has a gentle manner and a good sense of humor. He made me feel at ease and confident with his care. His staff is absolutely wonderful. I love his nurse Sue, P.A. Paul and his receptionist Shar. They make you look forward to coming in for a visit!
They show great interest in your progress and great understanding in the challenges that you face each day in your lap band journey.
They have gone above and beyond to meet my needs as their patient. I just cant say enough about the entire practice! Posted on 06/16/2008 |

Dr. Robert is so fabulous. He listened intently when I explained my weight history and told me I would do well on the lap band. It helped so much with my confidence and I still remember it. I love the office staff- especially Shara the receptionist. Sue is so great also. She helps me with any problem I have and recognizes what I need so quickly. And finally, I absolutely love Paul. He listens, he cares, and he trusts patients and he is so funny.
I am so glad that I found the Pinnar Surgical team and recommend them to anyone looking for a great practice with very personal support. Posted on 06/12/2008 |

Dr. Robert is fantastic. He was extremely upfront and honest with me about what it would take for me to succeed with lapband and I appreciate that.
I enjoyed all of the office staff - especially Shara the receptionist. She's always outgoing and friendly. Dr. Robert's nurses Sue & Deborah are fantastic. They're like second mom's to me. They're always there to help with any problem I have, even if it's a stupid one.
And finally, Paul. I can't even begin to explain how incredible Paul is. He listens, he cares, and he trusts in his patients. Being the man that does all of the fills, this is vital.
I highly recommend the Pinnar Surgical team to anyone looking for a great practice that really gives a darn about their patients. Posted on 12/23/2007 |

Update - a year after surgery. Dr. Eric Pinnar has moved to his own office and I elected to stay with Dr. Robert Pinnar. Dr. Paul Marino who does the fills is unbelievable!! Sue and Shara and Debbie in the office are great and very helpful. I actually look forward to going for fills as Dr. Paul does them so good - and this from someone who used to pass out from blood tests!!
I am sooo pleased with Dr. Pinnar and everyone in his office!! I really feel like I've gotten an extended family with all of them! They hold seminars that are very informative for the folks interested and are happy to chat one on one afterwards. The visits have been great - I feel that I can chat with them about anything and they are very encouraging! I did quite a bit of research and came up... [Click here for more] with Dr. Eric Pinnar - and then was very pleased to find out that his bedside manner is as wonderful as his surgical competence. Love Sue in the office, Linda the NUT is great, and love Dr. Roby the Psych. I'd rate the practice so far as awesome - will know more after surgery and post if there is any change to my opinion as noted above.

Dr. Robert and Eric Pinnar are a surgical team. I met with both during a monthly seminar. I found both to be extremely professional. Because I didn't really have a preference I chose Dr. Robert since he had the earliest opening for surgery. The office staff is very helpful and resourceful. The receptionist, Jill, had the procedure done last year herself so she is very helpful and understanding. I would highly recommend this practice and either surgeon for the surgery. Dr. Paul is the doctor who assists in surgery and also performs all adjustments, he has a wonderful upbeat personality. Posted on 12/29/2006 |

* My first impression of him: he is a pleasant, genial and talkative man who will take time to explain the procedure and all the ramifications. A older 'father figure' type.
* My impression has not changed - but I *never* see him and haven't since the surgery, really. However, his Surgical Assistant is top notch! He is GREAT and the person I spend most of my time with - he will explain and talk and let you talk and is willing to spend as much time as necessary with me. He does the fills and is ALWAYS very helpful.
* How would you describe his/her office staff? The big drawback. Not helpful. Perhaps they think you know or understand more than you do - and they do not have/will not take the time to help you find answers even to very important things like FINANCIAL ISSUES! And forget... [Click here for more] about a call back.
* What did you like least about him/her? As above, the doctor is fine but the office staff leaves much to be wanting.
* What should future patients know about him/her? You can't ask too many questions about the financial aspects.
* How much does he/she emphasize aftercare? Not that much. At first yes but again, it seems they think I know more than I perhaps do.
* Does he/she have a structured aftercare program? Basically they say come in once a week right after surgery then once a month after that.
* How did he/she address the risks of surgery? With great seriousness! They did not downplay it one bit.
* How would you rate him/her overall? Excellent - I would recommend them with the above caveats.
* Which is better, surgical competence, bedside manner, or are both great? Having both is great. But for a surgeon, being competent is more important to me. For his backup Staff, patient/bedside manner is key!
