The surgeon I've selected is Dr. Steven Poplawski. I've done lots of research on Dr. Pop (as he likes to be called), and he comes highly recommended. Also, I've spoken directly with one of his past patients, as well as read lots of great reviews on him. In our 1st meeting (May 9, 2008) he was very honest, straight forward, supportive & reassuring. He really believes in what he does, and he genuinely seems to care about his patients too. That being said, while bed-side manner is important, Dr. Pop's track record is what sold me. He's performed over 2,500 gastric bypass surgeries, and he's never had a fatality during or after surgery from complications. As well, he's worked as a trauma surgeon & a transplant surgeon. He's extremely intelligent & well-trained in his field! Dr.... [Click here for more] Poplawski is the best!!!

Dr Poplawski, was wonderful. I went for a consult at the Barix facility in Ypsilanti Michigan. My first impression was that I could trust him. His office staff were very friendly and the facility was updated and clean.
The doctor explained everything, all pro's and con's. I was very impressed that he was worried about any other issues I may have. He wasn't interested in just getting paid. He has great interest in his patients.
I felt very comfortable with him and the facility.
Knowing his background I have great trust in his capabilities. Posted on 07/13/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Pop (during the group portion of initial consult) was that he seemed very competent and straight -forward. After meeting privately with him, I was sure that he was the surgeon for me. He has a nice sense of humor and covered just about any question I had.
I went home and began researching him and Barix Clinics. Both turned up excellent results. He has extensive surgical experience.
Prior to surgery, he was all business. This made me feel confident during a very stressful time. After surgery, he was very positive and still very professional. I felt confident in his surgical skills and medical ability. While he is very personable, he isn't a huggy, sugary-sweet kind of doctor. If that is what you want, then you may want to look elsewhere.... [Click here for more] However, if you want a surgeon that knows what he is doing, Dr. Pop is your guy!
Due to the great distance between me and Yipsi, I reluctantly had to switch physicians for my post surgical care. Although I am very comfortable with my new doctor, I wish I could have continued the process with Dr. Pop and received his imput on my progress. Thanks, Dr. Pop!!! I'm feeling great!

My first impression of Dr. Pop is that he scared me, we were a couple of minutes late and when we came into the meeting he said well your late! But it only took a couple of minutes to determine he is very nice. His office staff have all been very nice. So far there is nothing negative he has been very nice and helpful. He was very forthcommiing with the possible complications, did not scare me but made me think. Overall on a scale from one to ten he is so far a ten. I am still preop so I hope he is still a ten after surgery. Both competence and bedside manner are important, if I had to pick just one I would want competency over bed side manner. First Impression: Very caring, professional, EXTREMELY knowledgeable
Office staff: Very supportive, professional, caring
After care: stresses aftercare as a positive
Structured after care: most definately
Address Surgery Risks: very much up front, no holds barred, yet not in a frightening way
Rate: so far, (as I haven't had surgery yet,) top notch, on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best, he is most certainly and without a doubt a 10 Posted on 05/14/2008 |

Dr. Pop was a wonderful surgeon and made you feel completely comfortable about your surgery. He explained everything very well on what he was doing and answered your questions very clearly. I would recommend him to anyone that wanted the surgery. He has given back my life that I didn't think I would ever have again. Thanks Dr. Pop!! Posted on 05/09/2008 |

My first impression of Dr. Poplawski is great. I like the fact that he gets to the point and he has a sense of humour. I found all of the staff to be very supportive and friendly. I feel that surgical competence is the most important, but the fact that he also has a good bedside manner is a bonus.
So far, I do not had any unpleasant experiences with the Barix Clinic at all. Posted on 04/13/2008 |

Dr. Poplawski is very personable and friendly. He is a knowledgable and kind. Wonderful bedside manner. He is also very busy. Sometimes to much.
The office staff is efficient and friendly.
I didn't like feeling like I was on an assembly line. That happened a few times, but generally, everything was fine.
He was very open about the risks of surgery. Posted on 04/09/2008 |
