*from the 1st time I met Dr Guske @ the seminar I liked him. He seemed so knowledgeable but at no time did I fell like he was giving the upside without the downside. I appreciated that
*my impression of him didn't change
*his office staff was very helpful throughout the entire process
*there was honestly nothing I disliked about him
*future patients should know they are selecting the greatest surgeon on the planet!!
*they encourage you to call with ANY questions you have and they have seminars (haven't attended 1 yet)
*I feel all the risks were explained to me but for me the benefits outweighed (pun intended :-) the risk
*scale of 1-10? 20!!
*I think surgical competence and bedside manner are BOTH important
I honestly had a great experience with Dr Guske and his staff Posted on 11/21/2008 |

What a guy! He is comming in to do my sugery during his vacation so I can get this done before Jan 1st as I have met my out of pocket for the year. If he didn't I would have had to dish out $3k out of pocket if we waited until Jan. Posted on 12/26/2007 |

From the first time I met him I knew Dr. Guske was the right surgeon for me. I was terrified of the surgery as much as I knew it was the right thing. He talked to me for a long time, answered all my questions and while being honest about the risks took away my doubts. I felt very safe that he would do everything to assure my well-being. When I went for my pre-op visit I was excited but still very scared. Dr. Guske made me feel more at ease and we talked a bit about the "what if" factors and he assured me they would move my anatomy around very gently, they would take the best of care me and that I was making the absolute right decision. The day of the surgery I was beyond terrified and he was so kind and compassionate to the fact I was so afraid. After the surgery, he came to... [Click here for more] see me and talked to me and I felt assured that everything was going to be fine miserable as I felt. I rate Dr. Guske the absolute best. He is kind, compassionate, and truly cares about his patients. He told me that he loves what he does and enjoys it and I believe him. The program at the Kane Center/Suburban Surgical is excellent from pre-surgery protocol thru support/nutritional guidance. I am looking forward to becoming a part of the post-bariatric support groups. I think Dr. Guske has it all - he's a great surgeon, he's a kind and compassionate human being and he understands the emotional side of this surgery is a big change and also a frightening one. He has gone out of his way to help me and I am so grateful. I don't know that I would have done this had he not been the one who talked with me about my fears. I put my absolute trust in him to hold my life literally in his hands. I have no regrets and feel great about the decision to have him as my surgeon, to use the Kane Center and Alexian Brothers. I would recommend him and the program to anybody. Dr. Guske is an excellent surgeon as well as a wonderful human being.

First Impression of Dr. Guske and the Kane Center were very positive. He has a very good bedside manner and is easy to talk to. I did alot of research prior to seening Dr. Guske so I knew I wanted to have the Gastric Bypass Surgery. The only negative thing I can say about him, is that he didn't really give me any other options, just agreed with what I wanted. But then again, maybe it was the best route he felt as well. The Kane Center truly requires individuals to come back 1 week, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months, then every 3 months for 1 year, then yearly for aftercare. They provide support groups on Saturdays with their psychologist and also provide a Healthy Lifestyle Class anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 weeks post op. The office staff was very friendly and informative. There was... [Click here for more] only 1 receptionist who was alittle on the rough side, but once I found that out I just tried to avoid her. I wanted only positive around me during this journey. The Kane Center has been around for over 40 years and Kane, Sr, now retired has trained all of his surgeons and I believe that both surgical competence and bedside manner are very important at least to me. Overall I would rate Dr. Guske as a 9.5 out of 10. All of the staff and other doctors are wonderful at the Kane Center.

I knew Dr. Guske for several years prior to my consultation with him. I would rate him a 10+++ on a scale from 1 to 10. He genuinely cares about his patients and that starts from day one in the office. I can't say anything that I didn't like about him.
He emphasizes aftercare with attending the support group sessions. He went through all the risks of surgery and took the time to listen to my concerns.
Dr. Guske has the surgical competence(as a consumer and nurse speaking) and bedside manner of a surgeon that surpasses most physicians. Rarely, I've seen a surgeon that has a great bedside manner.
I am so happy that I was able to have the laparoscopic procedure. The scars are so small and hardly visible.
All I can say is that if I need to have any surgery, I want Dr. Guske... [Click here for more] to do it!
The office staff pre-op could use some customer service skills. You need to follow-up with them constantly and nag them while you go through the pre-op screening tests prior to getting a surgery date. However, the office staff post-op have been a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Guske is the best!
