I just wanted to update and say thank you to Dr. Garber for changing my life. I will be forever his patient. He did the stomaphyx to me and tightened up my pouch and I have reached my goal. He is always on the forefronts of new technology. Don't walk but run to Dr. garber to change your life. Dr. Garber changed my life. I thoroughly researched the surgery and found out that Dr. Garber is top notch trained. He trained with Dr. Wittgrove who operated on Carnie Wilson and he did an advanced laparoscopic surgery fellowship. His office staff is thorough and very courteous. He spent a great deal of time explaining the surgery to me. I had the lap gastric bypass and went home from the hospital in 3 days and back to work in 8 days. Dr. garber emphasizes aftercare and has a support... [Click here for more] group once a month. He has a great bedside manner. The only problem I had with Dr. Garber is that it took time to get a surgery date because he was very backed up but it was definitely worth the wait. Would love to chat with others interested in surgery or to be their angel. Don't walk but run to see Dr. Garber. Contact me.

Just want to update everyone and let them know I am still doing great thanks to Dr. Garber and his staff. I love Donna in the office. She spends lots of time with me. Dr. Garber was amazing. He was very thorough and spent a long time explaining all of the details about the surgery. He had seen two other surgeons in the area and he was the only one that performed the surgery laparoscopically. I had the gastric bypass laparoscopically with 5 tiny incisions and went home in fromthe hospital in 2 days and back to work in one week. I already lost 145 lbs in the first 9 months after surgery. His office staff was very king and courteous. He has a structured aftercare with nutritionist and support group. He has an excellent bedside manner and is always reachable. He is definitely... Dr. Garber helped changed my life. He is the best doctor I have ever seen. He has a complete aftercare program with nutritionist, psychologist and even weekly support groups. Most surgeons only do them monthly. He is always available 24/7 especially via email. His office staff is also amazing. He has a state of the art office with its own endoscopy suite. He is also on the forefronts of new technology like stomaphyx and the Restore trial. At a recent support group meeting I was told he has done more than anyone in the world. If you are thinking about weight loss surgery or a revision definitely go see Dr. Garber you will be happy you did. Posted on 08/30/2008 |

The following is based on my own personal experience with this surgeon:
I thought that Dr. Garber was very informative & professional. His office staff was extremely nice & VERY helpful in all of my preliminary calls. He took the time to go over all aspects of having the surgery. The success rates, the possible complications, aftercare and the list of Dr's he requires you to see to get some preliminary testing done to assure your ok to go through with the surgery. At first I saw a surgeon who didn't even require any preliminary testing and I felt that to be inappropriate. Dr. Garber always kept asking if I had any questions after anything he explained and he answered all of my questions. Dr. Garber DIDN'T rush me through answering my questions... which was reassuring considering... [Click here for more] he did have other patients waiting be seen. Make the most of your wait! At time there were several people in the waiting room that were post-op who shared a great amount of positive feedback about Dr. Garber and were more than willing to answer questions and help in any way possible. Many of the Post-op patients were extremely satisfied with him, the surgery, his bedside manners, and aftercare when I questioned them. He has a support group meeting each month which is great. I will keep you up to date when I find out for myself how his bedside manners are etc!

Just wanted to report back: I am currently post-op & I'm so glad to inform you that Dr. Garber's is an extrememly caring surgeon. His bedside manners go Above & Beyond! His surgical competence is extraordinary. I trust him completely and would highly recommend using him for your surgery. He is truly a Doctor with compassion and always had reassuring words of encouragement to share when I was feeling scared. Dr. Garber is truly the best!

-This is my personal opinion of Dr. Garber -
I really liked Dr. Garber. when I first met him, he answered almost all of my questions before I even asked. I like the fact that he has done over 2000 of lap RNY surgeries. His office is packed!!! I guess that comes with a great surgeon. Dr. Garber has an excellent aftercare program - I was impressed at how structured the follow up will be :) He fully discussed the benefits and risks of the surgery. He told me to call or email him with any questions that I may have after our consult. I did take advantage of emailing him and he emailed me back pretty quick - usually in a few hours. He requires quite a few pre op visits in order to be cleared for surgery. The office staff is friendly and try to keep things moving.
Stephanie - office... [Click here for more] manager at Dr Garber's office is amazing and a sweetheart :) She is SO helpful. She is organzed and KNOWS her stuff.
Sharon, The nutritionist is encouraging and supportive.
Donna Franco, PA - is wonderful!

I liked Dr. Garber as soon as I met him, and like him more and more as time goes on.
His office staff is generally very helpful.
There is nothing I dislike about him, and his future patients should know he is warm, caring, down to earth, patient, and was very responsive to all my worried, anxious pre-op emails.
His feeling is that after RNY, we are lifetime partners. He has a support group once a month at Mercy hospital and you must adhere to his post-op appointment protocol.
Yes, he did address the risks of surgery.
I would rate him the absolute best overall, and both his competence and bedside manner are great. My roomate in the hospital had pain med. complications which caused her uncontrolable vomiting, and Dr. Garber was either there or on the phone w/the nurses... [Click here for more] for 12 hours straight until she got better.
He's tops in my book!

Okay, I have switched my surgeon. I met with Dr. Garber today (06/14/07) and he was fantastic. He answered my questions and allowed me the time I needed to make sure we covered everything. He also made it clear that if any questions come up, I can always contact them or email him directly.
They are organized and everything is laid out for you in an easy to understand manner. I look forward to this journey and the anxiety has dissipated.
Dr. Garber is a good surgeon and it is evident that he knows what he is doing. The technique he uses when stapling and sealing the connections was one of my big concerns. He explained it clearly and my mind is at ease.

My first meeting with Dr. Garber went really well. I cried of course in his office when I began to tell my life story, and he was so compassionate and understanding. I normally have a good intuition about a person and respect first impressions and have walked away from situations in the past because of an uneasy and uncomfortable feeling. I did not get this with Dr. Garber. He knew what he was talking about, answered my questions and explained to me the steps I needed to take. On several occasions, me with all the questions, had emailed him. Within an hour or two he answered me back in detail. I had a great experience with his office staff. The girls seemed very helpful and concerned about my next step. From others, I've heard that they tend to be a bit pre-occupied, but... [Click here for more] I did not experience this. On serveral occasions, I called the office with a questions and they were always willing to answer them thoroughly. I did a thoroght background investigation on Dr. Garber and Holover through NY State Medical and they both have a flawless history. I can't seem to find anything negative of them. I'll let you know how I rate him after my surgery...LOL!
4/18/07 - Dr. Garber has been wonderful throughout my almost one year journey. His support group meetings are very helpful and he is always there to talk to directly. My experience has been overwhelming with nothing but good. He is a wonderful doctor. I have not had one complication since, and feel awesome...please do not hesitate to email me with questions you may have! All the best and thanks for stopping by.! :-)
