I too had surgery with Dr. Verboonen and Dr. Ponce. I had a great experience , of course I was a little nervous but, as soon as I was picked up from the airport in San Diego all was well ! Lana a patient coordinator that lives in Rosarito and also runs the Amazing Grace Recovery Casa . It is a beautiful relaxing place to recover for a couple of days. (actually it was like a vacation) I want you to know that a few friends said don't go, I'm glad I didn't listen to them, I'm now 65 pounds lighter and happy as can be! The hospital was very nice, cleaner than an American Hospital. The Nurses were excellent , all nurses that work in Hospitals in Mexico are RN,s. No CNA's or LPN's. I thought that they worked 12 hour shifts like in the USA, but they said the Hospital Administration want them to be fresh and on their toes when they care for patients so they work only 8 hour shifts.....Interesting ??!!?? My surgery lasted about 35 minutes , and that evening I was walking around by morning I got up at 7am, showered and then I was ready to shop ! I felt great !( The Nurses said "relax we need to finish your IV meds first ) Yes, you have a few minor aches and pains, or slight discomfort but for the most part, PAINLESS ! The Doctors are usually available for questions and if they are busy or in surgery they will call you back personally . Dr. Rios does a great job of managing the Clinic and the flow of the practice and is always available too ! Surgery questions , nutritional questions you name it they are there for you. All the Doctor's and staff are very compassionate ! I don't know what more I can say but, If you have any questions feel free !! Alive again and 65 pounds lighter ! I've lost over 30lbs in 30 days! The last time I posted I was so anxious and nervous and now, I just wanted to send out a note because I am so happy! I had my gastric sleeve surgery with Dr Verboonen in Cancun on March 14, 2009 and I could not be happier! For those of you considering weight loss surgery in Mexico I cannot express how overly pleased I am with my patient facilitator, surgeon, hospital and overall experience!! Cancun is such a great place! It's very commercialized and very American-ized, which made me feel at home right away! My patient facilitator was Sheri and she was probably the 12 PF I'd talked to about a surgery in Mexico. As soon as I heard her voice I was sold. Her upbeat personality and positive energy came through the phone and I immediately knew where I should go! I booked my plane tickets that night!! And I have never looked back! The hospital was immaculate and practically brand new! The rooms were very nice and looked like rooms in an American hospital! They were all single rooms with marble floors and a couch and recliner for my friend who went with me! The nurses were very nice and accommodating! And the surgery team was amazing! They all came in to meet with me before the surgery and made me feel comfortable. The next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery! That night around midnight I was feeling a little discomfort (gas and bloating)and Dr. Verboonen himself called me to see how I was doing! I wonder how many US doctors would do the same? Anyway before I knew it, I was back home again in Indiana! My only slight complication was an allergic reaction to the adhesive used on my bandages. Now, the only reason I mention this is because even when I was back in the states, my two head surgeons Dr. Verboonon and Dr. Perez emailed, text and called me to see how I was doing!! Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty. They didn't have a nurse call or my patient facilitator they both contacted me multiple times! My rash may be gone but my positive feelings about my surgeons, my patient facilitator and my experience in Cancun will always live on! If anyone out there is considering a surgery in Mexico I would be happy to give you all the ins and outs of my time in Cancun. I urge everyone to do their research but for me, there was only one place and that was in Cancun with Dr. Verboonen.     — Valerie H.

Hello Everyone! I have my surgery (VSG) scheduled with Dr. Verboonen, in Cancun, on March 14, 2009. I am very excited and nervous and filled with tons of emotions! I really can't wait to change my life! I would love to hear from anyone out there who wants to share their experience with me. Any tips or advice for pre-op/post-op life is also appreciated! Thank you!!     — Valerie H.

Had VSG surgery at Obesity Goodbye on 12/26/08. I felt from the beginning that I had very good, competent care there from all three doctors (Verboonen, Ponce de Leon & Freya) and that they were very attentive to all questions and needs. Their follow-up care has also been EXCELLENT and really benefited my recovery. I also THOROUGHLY enjoyed the help and support of their patient coordinator who is from the states and works closely with the doctors right there in Tijuana providing door-to-door transportation and after-care to patients in her lovely home over looking the Pacific Ocean. There were several times in my experience there that I felt they went the extra mile for me and ALL of the care provided by this clinic has been very personable and appreciated!     — PJinSanDiego

Photo of lanaph   Marc, The Obesity Goodbye Center is located in Tijuana. I decided to go to the clinic as a few people from work went and looked great. I was retiring and I wanted to start living. See my post below. Dr. Verboonen is a top notch surgeon, who has the band himself. He knows your needs and desires as he himself is just like us. All the doctors at the clinic are great and I've really enjoyed being around them. If you have any more questions, let me know and I will get the answers for you.     — lanaph

Hi all, my name is Lana Humphries. I am from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I had the band done in March, 2007. I've lost 76 pounds. I have 35 more to go to reach my goal. I came to OGB through Sandra and Deidra, coordinators. When I tell you it changed my life - there is no exacuration (bad speller) in that. I loved it here and began coming back with Dedria evey time I could which started out being every 3 months. In January, after praying on it, I felt compelled to move here. My gift is compassion and serving. What better way to do that than to open a recovery house "Amazing Grace Healing Casa". I work directly with Obesity Goodbye and can give the proper nutrition that I lacked when I came and had to accept what the hotel had. If you know anyone that might be interested in coming to get the lapband done, please give them this website or they can e-mail me at lanaph53@yahoo.com. I have an e-mail account coming from OGB soon. Looking forward to hearing from each of you. Also, if you would like to be included in my e-mails of my adventures here in Real Del Mar - overlooking the Pacific Ocean, send me your e-mail to be added. Thanks. Lana     — lanaph

I just wanted to say "hi" to all my Obesity Goodbye bandsters. Did you see the article from the American Medical Association's Journal that said that obesity surgery can reverse Type 2 diabetes (no more medications) 73% of the time. Diet and exercise only worked 13% of the time. Wow, I'm so glad I did this procedure and have lost 120 lbs. never to gain it back! Just 40 more lbs. to go then I'm going back for my cosmetic procedure. Maybe this summer, Dr. V? Dedria     — Dedria

Hi everyone! I'm a new lapband patient....still very nervous about it! My surgery was this past week on 11/8/06. My doctors, Verboonen, Ponce and Freire were an excellent team. Their service, hospitality and great attention make me feel much confidence that I will be alright. This is my first week w/ the Band, it feels weird.....I start weighing 200 lbs (5'4" height). I'm still in the liquid diet, which is hard to do. I considered myself to be addicted to food so I'm really expecting that the band can help me take out this adiction out of my life. I was avery emotional eater, so I have to admit that miss food. Specially at this time ofthe year (close to THanksgiving and Christmas) .... But I know my halth come first therefore I have to be strong! Anyways! I pray that everything goes fine and really hope to loose some weight. Ask to all of you that help me pray that I can keep up with all the the things that I should do and that evrything can work fine. This firts week I've been feeling a lot nauseas and tired. I'm trying to drink good proteins sources juices and taking vitamins. I will keep you post ot n how I'm doing and my recuperation. Thanks to all of you that had placed your testimonies so people like me can feel inspired and have enough courge to go thru this surgery. Blessings!     — carpediem1417
