Competitors: This is the only hospital I have been in in the last 20 years.
Comments: My first 2 room mates very very vocal during the night, but their conditions were very poor, so they couldn't help it. And to be fair the hospital was full to capacity. Things were better when they transfered me to the 5th floor. The care was great and I have no complaints.

How Selected: This is where my surgeon does the operations.
Comments: I had a couple of bad experiences with the hospital staff. One time I needed assistance getting to the bathroom, I pressed the button for the nursing staff and was ignored. After about 20 minutes my situation was becoming more painful, I had to ask my roommate to hit her buzzer for the nursing staff. Luckily, they did answer her buzzer and came to my assistance. I learned real quick what I needed to do to get myself to the bathroom. The rest of my stay at the hospital, I never called for the nursing staff to assist me to the bathroom. The second problem I has with the nursing staff was on the last day of my stay in the hospital. My surgeon came in around noon and told me I could go home. I waited and waited for someone from the nursing staff to come in and tell me I could get dressed to go home. After a couple of hours, my boyfriend finally went and inquired about my going home. There was one nurse who was supposed to take care of my departure who I guess was too lazy to do her job. If my boyfriend hadn't inquired about my departure, I would probably still be laying there.

Comments: I had WONDERFUL care with one exception which I took care of quickly. I did great will in hospital and only really needed help getting unhooked from drains & IV,,first hospital I have seen not make you drag your pole. I waited a bit too long in recovery (11 hours) considering I was prepaid & registered, several bariatric patients who had surgery after me were in their rooms hours before I was. They did let my hubby stay with me the entire time and hell I was feelin great so a bed is a bed

Competitors: I can't compare. I've never been in a hospital before.

How Selected: One of the two hospital that Dr Roe does surgery at, Good Sam came highly recommended by others who had had this surgery, and I must say I was treated wonderfully.
Comments: The staff was great everyone I came in contact with was concerned and caring. All I had to do was ask and help was right there. Everyone I came in contact with treated me great. The staff gave me a great deal of encouragment about having the surgery and what a positive effect it would have on my life. I would recommend Good Sam to anyone.

How Selected: Dr. Roe does procedures here and at Union Memorial. Both have the same average review and I was interested in the first available date.
Comments: Admision staff was really caring; I had really good nurses taking care of me, friendly and understanding of my needs; my discharge was easy and not much needed to be done. The priest stoped by to say a prayer, I liked that and the atmosphere was also good and secure.

How Selected: My surgeon works out of two hospitals. I chose this one based on positive things I had heard about it.
Competitors: The hospital was very nice -- I had no complaints with the facilities
Comments: I only had a few negative experiences while at Good Sam. It took 8 hours to get a room and so I was stuck in Recovery for too long. My family had limited access to me during this time which made their worry far worse than it had to be. I did have a few rotten experiences with nurses who did not want to help me move because of my size. It was very frustrating. Overall the nurses and staff were very supportive and accomodating though. I was pleased with the level of care.

How Selected: Good Samaritan is the hospital used by Dr. Roe.
Competitors: Good Samaritan is an excellent hospital. I could not have been treated any better. Over the past 40 years I have been in 3 hospitals on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Good Samaritan was far better in terms of quality and friendliness of the staff and professionalism. I have nothing but good things to say about Good Samaritan.
Comments: Good Samaritan is an excellent hospital. I could not have been treated better in any other hospital. I only have good things to say about the hospital and the staff. And each and every employee went over and above to be friendly and accommodating.

How Selected: Where my doctor does surgery.
Comments: Some things I liked was that I had a private room, and my pain was controlled with a PCA. They had large gowns, and wheelchairs. Things that didnt go so well. My first time up they forgot me in the chair. They didnt answer call lights in a timely fashion...once my IV pump rang for a hour and after ringing 4 times someone finally came in. I kind of thought some of the nurses felt like this was a drastic measure for weight loss after casual talk.

Competitors: For this type of procedure, I thought my long stay was miserable. I am just glad to be home.
Comments: The nurses' on the surgical floor (not ICU) were so non-compassionate for your personal needs. My third day there, I could not get a nurse to help me take care of myself after I went the bathroom. "Your a grown woman, and you are not trying hard enough." This is just one of many examples I could give you on the quality of care. I would never go back there in a million years and would never recommend it.

Comments: Some of the staff was extremely caring and proactive. Some were less, but still make sure that my needs were taken care of. They need to have a much larger stock of larger gowns. One of the nicest things that they did - when I went to X-Ray for tests to ensure that there were no leaks, they put Crystal Light in the barium so that it didn't taste so horrible & took allowed me to stay in the wheel chair during the X-Rays. I thought that this was extremely considerate of my needs.
