Question:
Anyone had a Nutritional Evaluation done before surgery & been denied because of it?

My insurance company requires that I have a nutritional evaluation done BEFORE they approve me. Has anyone experienced a denial because of what was found out from that meeting?    — blank first name B. (posted on January 28, 2002)

Are you sure it's a nutrition evaluation? I think many insurance companies and also doctors want you to see a dietician so that they're certain you know how and what to eat after your surgery. I'd be real surprised if you were turned down because you somehow 'failed' a nutrition eval.

Yes Gar, the insurance company specifically requested a "nutritional evaluation". I haven't been turned down. I am waiting for approval, and this is one more thing they have requested. I just wanted to be prepared going into it, and was wondering IF anyone else had the experience of needing this BEFORE hand. I don't know why a pre-certification company would have me see a "dietician" before surgery to counsel me on something they may not even approve me to have done. My thinking on this is they must be using this eval to justify the surgery, and I just didn't want to say the "wrong" thing (you know how picky these insurance companies can be!)A good example would be the ones that deny WLS because of depression. Good God, when you're MO, isn't it understandable that we might be just a LITTLE depressed about it?!!! See my point?
