Question:
Due to plant closure, my husband lost his job at Jabil.

Is there anyone who knows employers in the Boise, Idaho area who have insurance that covers wls? As long as we're looking for a new job, we may as well look for better insurance! — sm S. (posted on January 1, 2003)

Im sorry I dont know of an employer, but if your husbands insurance was going to cover you, they have to offer you cobra. And my understanding is you will still be covered I think for 3 months . Im sorry your husband lost his job. best wishes

I also don't know any employers in the area, but I lost my job back in July. I got COBRA and kept my health insurance. COBRA coverage is up to 18 months - longer in some cases. It's expensive, so I had to move to a smaller apartment to afford it. But in September, I had my RNY surgery and the insurance paid for everything! It was worth it!! Good luck to you and your husband! Keep that insurance coverage!

About COBRA. If your husband worked for a company that is still in business, but just closed the plan he was in, COBRA does have to be offered to you. You will have to pay all of the premium, including the part that his employer paid, but it would probably be worth it.
However, if the company he worked for went out of business, then the COBRA law does not apply.

Qwest Communications uses United Health Care (UHC). It covers WLS.

I hate it when my message gets lost when I go to post it - GRRRRRR! So let's try again.
I am so sorry your husband lost his job. Personally I would focus on getting a job, any job, which will likely be tough in this economy.
The problem with trying to find a company with the right insurance is that it could be pulled out from under you anyway. Companies have the right to change insurance plans or decide to exclude things, so there is no guarantee. It is important that the job your husband gets is something he will feel fulfilled at and enjoy - otherwise going to work is hell! If he manages to find a job with WLS benefits that's great but don't let it drive everything. I'm guessing he will be out of work for a while due to the economy, so if there is any way you can swing the COBRA benefits that might be your best bet. Good luck and I hope he gets a job soon!
