Does Medicare cover LAP RNY?

I need to know if Medicare in Kentucky covers LAP RNY? Has anyone used medicare in Kentucky for WLS, if so what was used to proof medical necessity?    — Paula L. (posted on February 14, 2003)

Hi Paula, go to this page on this site http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/showdocs.phtml?State=KY You will see a list of KY surgeons. Go down the "surgery type" list and click on the lap RNY next to the surgeons that perform this type. You will then get a listing of insurances that paid for this. I saw several that had Medicare or Medicaid coverage for a lap RNY. Good luck! Shelley
