Question:
Surgery postponed due to Insurance Setback, any Advice?

I'm just venting I guess, but, My date is or was suppose to be April 1st. Now the Insur co says they didnt recieve my chart until 3/17.. I was given my surgical date on Feb 7th. Now I don't know when I'm going to have it, inless the insurance approves in the next 2 days, because i need medical clearance, pre-surg testing, and an appt with the head of the Bariatric center at the hospital all which is supposed to be done within 7 days of surgery. Any words of encouragement?? thanks :-(<br>    — KellyJeanB (posted on March 24, 2003)

Sorry to hear about your troubles! I too had a setback regarding the ins. co. requiring some pre-op counseling before they will approve me! Just keep on pressing the insurance company, call them often but always be polite. If you have the opportunity to speak with someone who sounds friendly/helpful, be sure to impress upon them how important this is to you, and how it is affecting your life (co-morbidities, etc) and your fear for your health. Stay positive with yourself and try to remember (as hard as it is to do) that this is only a setback and you WILL get your surgery. If you have a delay, what's another month or two at this point -- in two months you would still be overweight and wanting surgery, so hang in there! I don't know how you feel regarding religion, but it helped me to pray alot! Pray for the situation to resolve itself in a timely manner and pray for inner peace and patience. It has helped me. You can email me anytime from the link on my profile if you need to talk or need some encouragement. I'm in the same boat at the moment, jumping through counseling hoops trying to get my counselor to tell the insurance that I am ready. Good luck!
