Question:
Anyone here have a the surgery through BCBS of IL with BMI of 35?

I have a friend who is interested in the surgery, but her BMI is only 35. She suffers from asthma and depression. I referred her to my surgeon, but she was told her BMI had to be 40 or above. Is there anyone here, maybe in IL, who had the surgery with a BMI lower than 40? If so, please share.    — ToriJ (posted on September 30, 2004)

I am not from Illinois, I am from Minnesota but my surgeon is in South Dakota. When I went through my preliminary testing to see if I qualified my BMI was 34.6. The day of surgery my BMI was 33.3. Does she have any co-morbs? Also tell her to ask to be tested for pre-diabetes. That was one of the big things that helped me to get it done. I am now 10 months post op. I have lost 95 lbs, and have never felt better in my life. Would I do it again? You bet, but I would have had it done sooner! Please feel free to email me with any questions.
