Question:
Has anyone been approved for WLS without having a medically supervised diet??

Please let me know if you got an approval from Aetna US Healthcare and did not have to prove that you were unsuccessful with a meducally supervised diet. Did you have many comorbidities?? Thank you so much!    — dee B. (posted on May 26, 1999)

I don't have Aetna but I was approved without proof of a medically supervised diet. My co-morbidities included sleep apnea and unexplained heart palpatations.

dee.b. I HAVE AETNA AND I HAD TO SHOW THAT I HAD TRIED OTHER DIETS BEFORE AND FAILED. BUT IT WAS NO BIG DEAL.I Had no trouble getting them to approve. my problem was that i was going to go through barreactric treatment center and found that i had a hmo so i had to start from scarch. i had to be evauated again by o.s.u. but it turned out ok. i had aetna and they apporved fobi pouch and the pann. without anything...i did not have any diet history...i also had no co-whatevers either...but i have heard of people being denied it depends on the person who gets your claim..
