Question:
Has anyone been approved for DS by BC/BS HMO in MA?

I want to have gastric bypass with duodenal switch procedure my PCP supports me 100%. I can not find anyone in MA who performs the procedure. I found a surgeon in NY that will take my insurance. I contacted my ins. and they told me to have my PCP contact them directly which she did. Four days later she called me to say that they will not approve me consulting with this out of state surgeon or having this procedure done. They say it is because there are other procedures available to me within the state that they will cover. I feel that this is wrong. I don't think that I should settle for a procedure that I don't feel is right for me just because there are different ones available. Can anyone shed any light on this for me?    — Christina M.
