Question:
I have BC/BS PPO. What will I have to pay out of pocket

What will I have to pay out of pocket at the time of my surgery? I haven't met my deductible yet. I am about $55 short of that. I know that I will be responsible for up to $1,000 if my 10% of the bill is that much. Is there any sort of down payment required? For the hospital or the doctor?? I have to plan ahead just in case?? I would think they couldn't bill me until after the surgery because there may be additional costs. Any input would be helpful and thank you in advance.    — [Anonymous] (posted on June 19, 2001)

Some doctor's want your portion or co-pay up front. Mine did. My maximum out of pocket expense with BC/BS PPO including deductible is $800. I paid that at my first visit after approval. My hospital and radiology bills total $14,458 of which I have to pay absolutely NOTHING. Most hospitals require no "up front" money and my doctor was willing to work with me on the $800 if I needed it. Good luck and even if it is office policy to require up front money, most places will work with you.
