Question:
malpractice insurance for doctors who perform bariatric surgery

I just found out my staple line is disrupted and I'll need another surgery to fix it. My doctor told me she is waiting to find out before the end of the year about the malpractice insurance. Apparently, the insurance is about to raised so high she, and probably many other doctors, are considering not doing bariatric surgery. I'm not sure if this is only in Oklahoma or a nation-wide decision. Has anyone heard any information on this, and if so, do you know which doctors will still perform bariatric surgery here in Oklahoma?    — KRISTI K. (posted on December 23, 2003)

My surgeon commented on it at the end of the year last year. Any type of insurance is going to take advantage anywhere they can. That's just my opinion. Because we live in a law suit happy country, malpractice insurance is outrageos....especially on something the insurance industry feels is 'optional' or 'trendy' at the time. Sorry, tangent. But I get upset about this sort of thing. :)
