Does Mississippi Medicaid Cover Gastric Bypass?? please help

i was wondering if anyone knows if mississippi medicaid covers gastric bypass and if anyone has had it and what you have to do in order to quaify?    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 25, 2006)

Hi Chris, I dont see why they wouldn't. I had a friend in California who was on medicaid and they covered his gastric bypass AND tummy tuck surgery. This surgery is no longer considered cosmetic surgery. So your chances are good that it will. If they refuse, appeal their decision. Get letters from as many doctors as you can stating you need this surgery, etc. Hope this helps hon, Hugs Mickey.........

Hey Christina, Ms. medicaid does not cover WLS. I just found out a few days ago that Medicare just started to cover it. Unless things have changed, medicaid does not. glenda and walter
