Question:
Waiting for insurance approval any one else?

It will be a week tomorrow since insurance approval had been sent in by my Dr.'s office. Is it better to just have them call your or should you bug them about the status of my claim?    — Julie H. (posted on June 21, 2007)

Generally, you need to allow them two weeks to respond to your request. To ease your mind, it would not hurt to call your insurance co. or look up your claim online to verify the status.

It tool mine about 3 weeks but I also called my insurance company and stayed on it. Find out if they need additional info and then let your doctor's office know what they are saying. Good Luck

I would give it two weks and then call once a week, also I have been told that you should not call the insurance comany yourself because they can use the call as a denial and you only get so many, (this is hearsay) so that it for what it is worth, believe they will call when your approved and they want it done as quickly as you do. Good Luck!!

I am one week from seeing my doctor for the last time before submitting to the insurance company. Then she sends her notes to the surgeon's office, and they will submit to the insurance company. I have been told that the insurance company has one month to answer.

My paperwork was submitted to the insurence company on Monday. My insurence does things backwards according to the surgeons office. My PCP sent my for the dietary and psych evaluations, the cardiologist, and the sleep study. I attended an orientation class with the surgeon's staff on my own. Just when we thought it was time the insurence changed the rules and made me do a 6-month healthy roads diet telecourse despite having already done several long term physician monitered diets. Well I was all done on the 8th, and received my letter in the mail last week confirming the telecourse was recommending me. I faxed if to my PCP's office Monday and the office manager sent my packet by fax to the insurence. She had it preepared in advance. I called today and she said it usually takes 5 days, so might be tomorrow or Monday when we hear. The rotten thing is that my insurence changes on August 1st, so I assume it's a race for time now. I am so ready. I have read everything I could find an sampled a variety of protein drinks, saved up enough time off to be off for two months if I had to...boy time slows when your waiting! Good luck!

Hey Julie, jump for joy and call them. I waited one week from the time I knew that I had approval, and when they didn't call, I called them to share the news and let them know I was read to set the date. They called me with a date and it worked out great. Be nice, but call! They are very busy people, and so we are on their "to do" list. When you call, you help out their list! Take care and congrats. I am not in the same situation, however, a friend of mine, also a Julie (i thought you were her...) called about a week ago and was told she was approved, but has been waiting ever since to receive the letter. Her Dr's office has not received the letter either, so they won't set a date for her. I know how anxious she is, especially knowing she has been approved. I hope the wait will soon be over for you both. Good luck!
