Question:
Will BCBS pay for Gastric bypass after Lap Band Removal?

I had Lap Band for one year and developed problems with my esophagus. Dr. recommended removal. Wondering if BCBS of Mass Insurance will pay for another surgery possible Gastric Bypass. MY BMI still qualifies.    — marianne D. (posted on January 6, 2009)

Your insurance should pay for this procedure. It was according to what you have said directly the result of the first procedure making the second surgery covered by BCBS of Mass. I hope the problems with your esophagus have resolved. Good Luck and God Bless, vinnigirl, retired RN

Ummm...not to sound like a jerk, but.....why don't you just call your insurance company and ask?

My husband has BCBS of New Jersey and he had the Lap Band done 11/2006. It was removed 2/2008 and the Gastric Bypass was performed 5/2008. All paid for by BCBS. He didn't lose any weight with the lap band and was approved for each surgery with no problem. Good Luck!
