Question:
Medical Mutual is not covering my 6 month supervised required diet,

they are telling me that everything will be retro-ed back once I get my final approval which will not be until July or so. has anyone else had this problem. By the way, this is my first question that I have asked on here, but I LOVE reading all of yours. I am so excited for my new journey. My surgeon gave me the option of seeing my physician or a psychologist (who specializes in weight loss surgery) and I opted for the psychologist. My insurance covered all of my sessions with her, she has been great and so helpful for the "emotional eating" piece. She was the one who wrote the final letter to my insurance company verifying I completed my 6 months and I got approved. Seeing a psychologist was covered under my mental health benefits. If I had opted to see a nutritionist for 6 months, they probably wouldn't have covered it. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago and my psychologist has been crucial in helping me through the whole process. Good luck to you!

My insurance also would not cover any nutritionist. That seems so silly considering it was their requirement but it's an insurance company. Go figure!

I had to pay for the psyche evaluation. The 12 months of going to my Dr, for monthly documentation was through my insurance. I figured I put out of pocket about $600.00.

My insurance did not have Mental Health coverage so I was suprised that they wouldn't cover my PSYCH test or visit after the fact. I hope I don't have to see the Psych again. I alrady have a deductable that I have to worry about. But they covered my Nutritionist visits. I agree I think its funny that they don't cover things that they require you to do.

Each insurance company is different. If I were you I would ask them to send you a signed & dated letter stating that it will be retro! If they say it is in your policy still INSIST on a personal letter stating their policy. Lorraine

Congrats Lisa. How very exciting for you. My insurance covered the psych evaluation and the nutritionist. The 2 week pre-op liquid diet i had to pay out of pocket 250 dollars which i believe is a rip off because we could buy our own medical grade shakes for 1/3 of the price. All insurance companies are different. Best of luck to you :-)

Hi. I had to pay for the nutritionist, all food/drink and the 'shrink'. Everything was required....I ended up out of pocket about $1200.00.
