Question:
can you still have WLS when you have had c-sections?

Im askin cuz my friend is wanting this surgery but dont know if she can because of the c-sections she has had    — Tina G. (posted on January 17, 2007)

Hi, I had a c-section 17 years before my RNY. I asked my surgeon that exact question at my first seminar. He said that I had a slightly higher chance of having to convert to open instead of lap if there was internal scarring from the previous abdominal surgery that affected what they were doing. It was fine though, completed lap and I have had great success.

I have had three c-sections over the last nine years, I am cut across at my hairline, and will be undergoing a lap bypass in February. My surgeon says it is a whole different area he is working on. Don't worry.

Yes, you can. Im 4 years postop and had c-sections in 1995 and 1997. Good luck to your friend!

Sure u can. I had 2 c sections 1995,2003,and my gallbladder removed 2004. And I just had WLS 2 months ago and doing fine.

Yes, you can. I had a c-section almost 11 years ago and had lap rny 5 weeks agon w/o any problems.

Hello Tina, My WLS was my 17th abdominal surgery. My Dr. was able to do lap but had said we might have to convert to open procedure. Hope this helps. Cathy

I've had 5 C-sections......those surgeries were below the belly button.....I had lap RNY.....above the belly button. Good luck to your friend. Laura A.

Yes you can. I had 2 c-sections one in 1987 and one in 1997. Lap RNY in 2005. good luck.

I had a c-section January 2004, gallbladder surgery in June 2004, and just had open RNY a little over 3 weeks ago... open surgery is not so bad either, really... my surgeon only does open RNY. :)

I have had 3 C sections and had my WLS last December with no problems. I have 5 small scars on my stomach.
