Question:
How long does it take mediaid to approve u for gastric bypass after ur 6 mo. eval?

I have completed my 6 month evualation that Medicaid requires for the gastric byapss; it has been a little over 2 weeks since my dr. submitted it for approval; how long does it generally take to know if you are approved? I am nervous because this is the last year Medicaid will pay for these types of surgeries.    — truelyblessed05 (posted on November 9, 2010)

Medicaid, like all govt. agencies, runs very slow! It may take 3 to 6 months. Keep calling them to check. Bug them until they give you an answer. The eval. period is the hardest, and that is over. Good luck! Bonnie

Mine took 2 weeks. I only called once on the second week and I was told I was approved.

I'm in NC and on medicaid. I was super stessed out when I learned that they won't be covering WLS after this year, but I submitted my papers and had the approval in a little less than 2 weeks. Feel free to give them a call. Good luck!
