Hi, I have BC/BS preferred and they had a policy that they did not cover the surgery or anything related to weightloss. I also had a local doc do my surgery. He somehow made it medically nessecary so that the insurance would see that I truely needed it. Stick with it and talk to the doc. He might can do what mine did. They do have a way of helping us that help ourselves. Today, I am six months post op and have lost 80lbs. I feel great. Dont give up and see what your doc can do for you. Good luck!!

I had traditional Blue Cross Blue Shield through General Motors and was approved in 4 weeks with no problems.

Never use the words "Weight Loss Surgery" to the insurance companies. I tried that at first, and they went nuts and said that they do not cover it. But, early in the game someone told me to only use the words "Gastric Bypass Surgery". I tried that, and I just got approval for my lap/rny. You never know what words work. I hope this does for you.
