I was a self-pay too, but choose to go to Brazil to get my surgery. The entire trip -- surgery, up to 2 weeks in the hospital (I was only there 3 days), including airfare and hotel for my husband and myself was about $12,000. And I had the Duodenal Switch, which is a more complicated and more expensive surgery than the RNY. If you have to self-pay I would certainly look at other options. Lots of folks have gone to Dr Ungston in Mexico and are very happy -- he's an excellent surgeon too. You are welcome to e-mail me if you want more info.

I think the best person to answer this question would be with the billing person at your doctor's office. Other than that, here are some ideas for you : As far as using other companies, I don't know for sure but my guess is that they will work with any company.... money is money. I doubt they'd turn down a check for $24k just because its not from Capital One. When you say you are asking for aid, does that mean you are looking for a grant/donation (not to be paid back) or does that mean you are looking for a loan (to be paid back)? I haven't found any places that do the grant/donation thing, unfortunately. To find companies other than Capital One, you could probably go on Google and use "medical loan" as your search term. I'm sure you'll get some hits. Good luck to you!
