I am one year plus 2 months post lap band, and sadly to say (at least sadly for me) I've only lost 38 pounds. While a lot of people would say that's great, I am so OCD that I wish it were more. I'm doing "ok" with my weight journaling, etc, and no I've not gained any back.. I just wish it were over. Were I to have had the choice again (I can't -- I'm over 60 and my Doctor won't do the RNY - insurance etc), I might have had the RNY. But be that as it may, I'm still down from a 3X to a 1X and losing. Good luck!

I've lost very very well. 21 months out from surgery now and I've lost 170 lbs. At 5 months, I had lost about 70lbs. You can do this! If you're a lower BMI, you might lose slower. I was a HIGH BMI.

Thanks so much.. I know a few people who had gastric by pass years ago and started having complications 5 and 7yrs after the surgery.. So still researching but leaning toward the band... I know weight loss is slower just want to lose 40 pounds in 5 months I have a bmi of 56 so I hope I can lose quicker and much more if I work with the band.

I had lapband on 9/8/09 and have lost 93 pounds and haven't gained any back at all. I'm hoping to lose another 20 or so and I'll get there. The main thing with the lapband is you really have to be committed to making it work for yourself and if you stick to what the doctors and nut's tell you, you can make it happen. I followed their instructions to the letter and have had significant success. It's not for everyone but if you can force yourself to make the committment to succeed you will. You really have to pay attention to your portion sizes and WALK WALK WALK. In the beginning, the pounds pretty much melted off of me - I've stayed the same for a long time now but haven't gained anything back. I know if I go back to basics, I'll kick it off again. Good luck with your choice - for me it was the lapband and the recovery was a breeze. I didn't have a single problem but, again, I paid very close attention to what the doctor's and my team at NE Medical told me and followed their instructions to a T... You can do this!!! You're worth it!!!

I have had my band for 3 1/2 years and lost 107 pounds. I lost that by month 9 post op. I immediately started exercising. I started by walking just a few steps, but am now walking 6-8 miles, 5-6 times weekly. I do nothing else, but walk. I was told that a successful lapband patient typically loses 50 percent of their excess weight. So, if one needs to lose 80 pounds and loses 40 pounds, then they're considered a success. I have met people at support group who lost everything they needed and some who did not. I wish you great success. Do what your program tells you, attend a support group, love yourself, and have the time of your life.
