Question:
Has anyone used Humana PPO

I just got Humana and don't really know how long I have to have it to have any medical procedures. I have my first appointment with the Surgeon. When I asked if they took Humana and what the requirments were they mentioned 3-6 months of doctor supervised weight loss attempts. I haven't been to the doctor in a few years, and a friend with the same insurance had the surgery and this part was waved due to her health and BMI. What's been your experience? Thank you!    — whcolwell (posted on January 13, 2006)

Humana does cover the procedure but you do have to have the supervised weight loss and it's for 6 months unless your BMI is super high when it's a matter of life or death. Also that you have comorbidities this makes the process move faster for approval. Make sure your insurance if it's thru your job does not have an exclusion written in it a lot of workplaces are leaving WLS out of the policy having to do with premiums. My hubbies workplace removed it from their bc/bs of Georgia plan. So I went thru Humana and later had to drop them cause where I'm having my surgury does not take it. They are a HMO area and I'm in a PPO area. Good Luck with the process. If you have any questions about what you need for approval you can use the information off my page. I'm on straight medicare now, but the paperwork is the same.

I also have Humana as well. And it wasnt until when I asked the company if my plan cover WLS I had found out the hard way that my job had it as an exclusion. I was never informed in the insurance presentation at my job nor have i recieved paperwork on exclusions. Had i been properly informed of this exclusion, i would have never sighned for it. Right now, I really feel helpless, but I will continue to fight. It probably would not hurt if you was to send a letter explaining your situation. Even try to partially pay in cash and have them cover the rest. At least that is my idea that i will try. This is my worst nightmare. Right now, I feel trapped in somthing that i have no hope of gettin out of.
