whoa that is kinda morbid - but I guess your next of kin would have to arrange for it to be shipped back to your state

Number one, I would NEVER go to Mexico to have it done. Sure some may have positive results and I know we can become desperate to get this surgery done, and there may be no lengths we won't go to in order to get it done, but I don't think risking my life or taking a chance on getting a butcher is worth it. Sorry, just my opinion. Otherwise, do like the other post suggested, make sure your next of kin knows where you are and make arrangements to have your body brought back to usa.

while I do not know the answer to your question on death in Mexico, I DO know about the surgery in Mexico. I went and I had a DOCTOR not a tech. He is Brilliant and has all the diplomas to prove it. It was a fantastic experience and I would do it again in a heart beat. If you have any ? e-mail me at [email protected] thanks, Lynn

This excerpt is from the Mexican Consulate sight.......... Arrangements After The Death Of An American When an American dies abroad, a consular officer notifies the American's family and informs them about options and costs for the disposition of the remains. Costs for preparing and returning a body to the U.S. may be high and must be paid by the family. Often, local laws and procedures make returning a body to the U.S. for burial a lengthy process. A consular officer prepares a Report of Death based on the local death certificate. This is forwarded to the next of kin for use in estate and insurance matters. You can find more info at http://www.usembassy-mexico.gov/tijuana/Teacs.htm Best of luck!

I'm with Nora on this one. In 1993 I flew 3,000 miles to Oregon to have some surgeries. (NOT wls). And I almost died, many complications... and very long story. But when you fly home and have a problem DO NOT be surprised if a hometown surgeon will refuse to help you. Yeah some here will say, "by law they have too". Well I've been there and done that! I KNOW. Anyway, it makes for alot of complications and expense to go back where you had surgery. Besides, these long distance surgeons "often" don't care. Heck there butchered handiwork is'nt around to show how sloppy they are. Just my opinion... <sigh> Good luck with whatever you decide.

Holly, regardless of what others may think, other countries, LIKE MEXICO, have wonderful doctors, well-educated, highly trained, and very very knowledgeable. We would be very small to think that the US is the only country in the world with qualified professionals. The key here is to obtain a doctor who performs the surgeries in a HOSPITAL, that you check his/her CREDENTIALS, and that you follow the same protocol you would if you were researching a doctor in the States. Spain, Mexico, England, France, Ecuador, Venezuela, etc., just to name a few, have highly educated and trained physicians. My advice: Do your research in any country like you would here. Missy

first look up a funeral home that you would like to use in your home town. Then let them know about your trip and they can get in contact with funeral homes in that particular city in mexico that will prepare your body for shipping. I happen to work in this business. If you're that worried don't go thru with it. Not until you feel safe!

It's NO-TELLING what could happen to you if you died from WLS in Mexico. My advice to you is STEER CLEAR OF WLS IN MEXICO!!! You may get a bad surgeon who is not trained properly, and Mexico's drugs are not FDA approved. They have no form of a government regulation. So, you never know for sure what medicines you are getting, or if they are safe, etc. etc.. I am sure there are some good surgeons in Mexico, put I would not put MY body in the care of a doctor in Mexico. I know at times we all feel anxious, we all don't have a lot of money, or we want to get the WLS so bad, but your LIFE is more important than WLS in Mexico!!! One last bit of info; I have seen several shows on TV about botched surgeries in Mexico, it's really terrible. Good Luck

Ok, so if you are considering WLS in Mexico I believe you should take advice form folks that have been through the experience. Yes it is scary to leave the country for this surgery, but like so many this is the only alternative. I myself had the surgery in Mexico and could not have hoped for better care. I don't believe it is right for others to say don't do this or do this based on any experience. The decision is ultimately up to you, all others can provide is advice. If you would like to ask more questions from someone who has actually been through surgery in Mexico, please feel free to write me at [email protected] Kim

I know what you are feeling and I'm right there with you! The only way I will ever be able to have surgery would be in Mexico because of financial reasons and I'm having problems comming up with that 12,000 but I have done my research on the DR.'s in Mexico and feel it is my only hope because the weight is killing me so I stay here and slowly die or do something about it and take that chance, My family is screaming at me calling me stupid but it all comes down to YOU! You are the only person you have to live with your entire life so do what you feel comfortable with Nobody can tell you Not to do it unless their offering some help financing to go with that decision.Just my oppinion and I don't care if I have to yard sale my way to 12,000 I will find a way to get to Mexico even if that is my final trip! If you wanna talk email me [email protected] Kim
