CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT STATES MANDATE COVERING WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?

Maryland and Virginia mandate covering weight loss surgery as long as the business employing the potential patient, the type of insurance and the patient meet specific criteria. Self funded insurance or insurance programs for business with a small staff are exempt from the mandate. Patients must have medical necessity proven and be morbidly obese.

I think GA has a mandate coving WLS. I was interested in this because sister (that in't interested in WLS) lives there and could have it, whereas I am having trouble getting approved here in Ky. Hope this helps!! Becky

In GA, insurance companies must OFFER WLS as an extra OPTION but the buyer (the employer) has the option of not buying/paying it. I was lucky enough to work for a company that bought it. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 120+
