Question:
Highmark BC BS PPO 6 month diet

I have Highamark BC/BS PPO and I know I need a 6 month diet with my doctor can I just go and bascially weigh in once a month or do I need to see a nutritionist once a month also? Any information you can give me on this I would REALLY appreciate. Thanks for everything. KARI B.    — huntersavage (posted on March 11, 2006)

I have BC/BS PPO (not highmark) and I have to have 12 consecutive months of dieting. It may be different with you though. And I only went to doctor to weigh in. But to have it on my charts, I did go to Weight Watchers and such. Hope this helps! Stephanie

Kari, in a week I'm about to finish the required 6 Month Doctor Supervised Diet that my Insurance requires. Make sure your doctor or the Nurse Practioner writes not only your current weight each time you weigh in but what diet your attempting each time and anything associated with it. I just heard from my surgeon's office as my PCP finally sent my records over to them. My PCP office in the last 6 months had only recorded the starting weigh-in and one other entry but then just a weight in number. Nothing else. So I having to write-up what should be in my records. And hope they'll go back and re-write my records. It's lucky I kept my own log of my 6 Month Diet. If they won't then their telling me their a WLS Friendly Clinic is out the window. I'll need to find another PCP and start the Whole 6 Month Doctor Supervised Diet over again. Where's a good Lawyer??

P.S. Kari and everyone else: AT THE END OF YOUR WEIGH-IN VISIT. YOU WANT & NEED TO LOOK AT THE RECORDED VISIT TO SEE THEY DID WHAT THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DO. Your following what is required make sure they do too. It's for your health. Their working for a paycheck not your well being.

I just had my surgery in Dec. with Highmark BC/BS. You must see your Dr. once a month for 6 months, you need to see a nutritionist (only once) and have a psyc. eval. The biggest problem-according to my surgeons office-is that your PCP may not do the 6 month thing properly-he MUST do more than just weigh you-ie he should include his office notes in your application-ie, weighed, discussed the importance of excersise, talked about nutritional needs--then he MUST write a letter of recommendation saying he supports you in your desire for WLS. Blessings and wishing you the best.
