Question:
I am interested in hearing from anyone who had the newer gastric sleeve procedure

Please tell me what I may expect after the surgery is done. Will I be in alot of pain and does it control my appeitie and make me feel fuller faster? Thanks for your comments, suggestions and experience information.    — Healthy10 (posted on March 11, 2010)

I'm looking to have the same procedure. I heard it is the new "gold standard". I also look forward to hearing as well. I'm getting ready to set my surgery date. Hopefully, looking at the end of April. So far I have lost 36 lbs "pre-surgery".

I had the sleeve on December 29th, 2009. It has been the most amazing and easy experiences ever. I was released from the hospital less than 24 hours after surgery. Went to a trade show in Las Vegas 2 weeks after surgery. I am 3 months post op anh have lost 50 lbs. I didnt even need the pain medication thatthey gave me! I had a few days of nausea but meds fixed that right up.

I had my sleeve on 1/28, was out of hospital less than 24 hours after surgery. The other 3 days I felt like I was on vacation. Be careful to follow what the doctors/nurses tell you. Some in my group did not do that (my roommate) and did not have such a great recovery. I am 6 weeks post op and have lost 30 pounds and 2 sizes. I had hoped it would come off faster, but I am okay with where I am. It is VERY easy - the whole thing. I still eat a Dorito if I want one, but about 5 of them and I am done. They don't control me like they did before -always craving them. Doesn't happen anymore - with any food. This is a wonderful process. You won't be sorry. You can call me if you want further details - I am THAT happy with mine. 715-478-5657 - Kim

Me again. I guess I didn't answer your questions. I never used pain meds at all. Yes, this controls your appetite - because they remove the Graelin (sp). You will not feel the tummy rumblings of hunger anymore. My husband and I went out for breakfast yesterday and I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. I ate part there and brought the rest home. It lasted me 2 more meals at home. You will feel full after a small amount. The hardest thing for me, is learning to eat more slowly. But I *CAN* eat anything I want. Making good choices and sticking to the protein is obviously the best choice.

I had the sleeve in December 2008, and it is the vest thing i have ever done. When they say do not drink sodas, stick with that. ! I have lost 100 pounds, no pain, no ill effects, and no problems. It does help to exercise to help keep yourself feeling good. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions!

Um well the pain is deff there after the sleeve I felt like a sumo wrestler sat down on my chest and pressed down hard on it and I felt like a truck ran my stomach over about 10 times so the pain is there however it was well worth it and yes it limits how much you can eat and makes you feel full much faster a bowl of spaghetti and meatballs is 3 meals for me a Chinese combination dinner is 3 meals for me with the soup it's 5 meals just to give you a couple of examples
