Question:
Who has had Kaiser's decision overturned by DMHC?

Since 01-01-2001 California's Dept of Managed Healthcare has completed 30 Independent Medical Reviews. 24 cases denied by HMO's were overturned by the DMHC. The 6 that were not...4 were approved but wanted duodenal stitch instead of Roux-en-Y procedure, 1 had an eating disorder, and 1 the DMHC said 6-12 month was appropriate. All this information is avail at www.dmhc.ca.gov. Check it out. Anyone succeed with this route?    — ERICK B. (posted on March 1, 2002)

Erick, I too had to go through the DMHC when Kaiser stalled on making a decision. They were great, they were able to resolve the matter within thirty days. At some point, Kaiser will have to change the way they treat their patients. There are sooo many insurance companies who are providing treatment, if I had to do it all over again, Kaiser would not be my choice of insurance companies.
