Question:
How long did the approval process with Kaiser take?

From the time your PCP sent in a referal to your surgery date? Was the amount of time acceptable? Why do you think it takes Kaiser a great deal more time to approve patients. Does Kaiser delay approval in hopes patients will not follow through? What do you think? — ERICK B. (posted on April 22, 2002)

Hi Erick, here is my timetable:
sent forms in for approval mid-June, 2001
approved for surgery Sept. 13, 2001
orientation at So. San Francisco Dec. 1, 2001
consult with Dr. Legha Feb. 19, 2002
surgery date scheduled May 2, 2002
If you count the 2.5 months I spent going to nutrition classes, I have waited 14 months for my surgery. The amount of time you wait i NOT acceptable, in my opinion. I don't know why it took them three months to even approve me. I do know that they are down a surgeon (they used to have 4 surgeons, now only 3), and that contributes to the backup. Other than that, I don't know what the heck the problem has been. Good luck. Hugs, Joy

Hi...You can also get more information on this if you go to Insurers and then click on your state...then look for your insurance carrier. This may be helpful.
