Question:
pre-op classes before approval

I have BC/BS of MN and I was informed yesterday that I wasn't approved yet becasue I had to have pre-op and post-op nutristional classes first. Has anyone else had to do that before being approved? Thanks and God bless    — CARRIE C. (posted on August 26, 2003)

Still waiting to hear from the powers that be, but...my ins. co. said the decision was left up to the attending surgeon, both nutri. and pshcy evals. The one thing they do to speed up the process a bit - supposedly- is that the wls support meetings are led by a lisc. nutritionist, paid by the ins. co! So in essence, a 2 hr. support meeting, is a 2 hr. nutrional eval. Check with your ins. co. rep. or your phys.

I had to see a nutritionist before being approved also.

The bariatric program where I had my surgery done requires pre-op nutrtional consult as well as a psychological consult as a condition of the surgery. In my case, it was not a requirement of the insurance company, although I'm sure that they are happy that it was done...JR

I will have to go through a 12 week education program before surgery. I haven't started it yet. The way I understand it, ours is handled through Psych or at least begins with Psych. My psych appointment is Friday. I'm also to see nutrition once a month until surgery also beginning this Friday. I'll know more by Friday afternoon.
