Question:
I am looking to find a good doctor to perform LAP BAND.
I am in Canada but would be prepared to travel to have the procedure done if I cannot find one nearby. Would like to know if there is anyone in Montana who does it. Also, has anyone had it done in Mexico...any comments? Thanks os much. — sparkybobbi2 (posted on October 1, 2007)

I am from Billings, MT and had surgery in Great Falls. There is a great
team of doctors there, Dr. Rohrer, Dr. Mortenson and Dr. Elizabeth Martin.
Dr. Martin did my surgery and I couldn't recommend her enough. She
recently moved here from Virginia and has done over 200 Lap Band surgeries.
I would personally hesitate with going to Mexico just because of the
follow up needed with fills. Hope this helps:)

Like Vinca said, you would need to line up someone to do your fills in
Canada unless you have the money to travel.

You fly into San Antonio and a lady named Barbara will pick you up and
drive you to the hospital. I think the price is around $7000 now.

Hi, this is my first posting. I have my Lap-Band surgery set for Oct. 15th
in Tijuana Mexico at Angelas Hospital. It will cost me between $7000.00 and
$8000.00 my insurance will not pay for the surgery so it's my only choice
if I want this surgery. This price pays for the surgery and my and my
husbands stay plus transportation to and from the San Diago airport. My
doctor is Juan Lopez Corvala. He has done over 3000 of these surgeries and
trains U.S. doctors on how to perform lap-band surgery. I also found a
doctor in my town who does the fills.

I had my band in Tijuana at the hospital angeles in february. Dr Pedro Kuri
did the surgery. I LOVE Dr. Kuri, he and his team were awesome. He has
been doing the band for over 12 yrs. He has done thousands of proceedures.
The hospital is incredible. NOTHING like you would expect. Beautiful, new,
and extremely clean. very modern, and very modern equipment. My best advice
for you is don't look only at the cost, look at the physician, and their
credentials. but most of all...make sure that you have an experienced
physician for follow up care. each dr will place the port in different
areas, I had one friend who lived back east, had dr kuri put in her band,
and the tried to get follow up care back east, the guy "couldn't find
her port" because it wasn't right on topf of her skin. sent her back
to mexico because he thought it had flipped, it hadn't, then when she went
in for more fills, he ended up putting holes in the line, she has had
nothing but a year of hell, and is going to have to have repairs done to
her band. I havent heard exactly what they are going to do, but she has
lost a whole year becasue she went to someone "close" This is too
important, just make sure that even if you have to travel, do your home
work, ask to contact some of their patients, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!Best
