Question:
Help!!! Surgery scheduled with surgeon but not with hospital???

Finally after what felt like an eternity... I have been scheduled with the surgeon to get the lap band 8/8/08. I am so stressed out because it is 8 days away and the surgeon hasn't even scheduled it with the hospital. Every time I call the surgeons office, I get a different explanation. The one today was that they were awaiting the approval from my ins and as soon as they got it they'd put me in. I have nys govt empire.... does any one know how long they take to approve? Has anyone else finally had it scheduled and their PST's done all in one week??? I am so scared that at the last minute I won't be able to have it and then I will be so heartbroken!!!    — munchiesmama (posted on July 30, 2008)

Even though I am new to this journey and just got my surgery date today, I have never heard of the surgeons scheduling surgery before you were approved or not. I sure hope you do get approved otherwise you may not be having surgery on the 8th like you are expecting. And only a week prior with pre op, I dont know about others, but my pre op is 1 month in advance of my surgery. I am having surgery Sept. 15th and my pre op is scheduled for Aug. 18th. Best of luck to you. I dont know about your insurance, mine only took a week to be approved. I am almost kind of shrugging my shoulders on this as it doesn't sound right to me and do not know what to tell you.

Try not to stress out to much. Miracles do happen. I found out that my insurance was changing in 4 working days before my surgery. My insurance changed on the 1st and my surgery was on the 2nd. On the 1st my surgery time changed 3 times, the last was 12 hours before I was to check into the hospital.. The Dr only schedules so many a day and if your on his schedule he is not going to do that if they are not certain that your paperwork wont go thru. He wants to be paid. Like you I had worked on getting my surgery date for over a year. Your almost there, Good Luck...

Do not worry I had mine at UIC in Chicago and it moved fast. I was not on the surgery sch. until the day before so it should be ok. They move fast when they need to.

I can say that my surgeon had to schedule a surgery date in order to get the insurance company approval but it is just a place holder date and mine changed to a week later than the orginal planned date. I received two letters of approval...one with the original planned date and one with the actual date. Your body will heal better if you are not all stressed out before surgery. I would look into some meditation or stress reducing exercise to deal with the frustration of it all. Wishing you all the best, Regina ([email protected])

Don't stress - you're fine and don't bother calling the surgeon's office. I'm assuming you have gone to your pre-op all ready. They should have given you a time to call their office the day before surgery - that's when they will tell you what time to be at the hospital. I had surgery without approval from the insurance company - - your surgeon won't do it if he thinks you won't be approved. So relax and just get yourself prepared for your new journey in life. The best to you.

Hi! I just had my surgery on July 29th. Don't be scared, I had gov't insurance as well, although it is FEDERAL BCBS. I was approved very quickly and then had my EKG, blood tests, CT scan all in one day! So far I feel just feel sore in my stomach area and it feels like I have indigestion all the time. I've already lost 20lbs with the pre-op diet and the limited things I've been eating since surgery. Good luck and don't worry!! Donna B. Do
